Greatswords Guide: Unlocking all Weapon and Seneschal Statues: Weapons

The Greatsword in Blades of Fire is a slow but powerful weapon with excellent reach and stagger potential. Its ratings are Speed: 1, Recovery: 2, Advance: 2, Damage: 2, Stagger: 3, Strike Area: 3. The best strategy involves using charged thrusts from a distance to stagger enemies, followed by quick attacks before retreating.

There are five Greatswords to unlock, each requiring you to defeat a specific number of enemies. Some enemies are only available later in the game.

Greatswords and Unlock Requirements

• Claymore: Defeat 60 Putrids (Claymore Users). Found south of the Kar-Lethel Wall Anvil in The Hollow Plain. Offers a balance of offense and defense with respectable damage and block, but has high stamina cost and low mobility. Recommended build: 64“ Blade, Concave or Concave Fuller Cross Section, Big Guard, Medium Pommel for high damage and block, at the cost of durability and stamina.
• Trollslayer: Defeat 5 Trolls. Locations include Besacaar Hamlet, Crimson Fort, Doyen Graves, and Belitara’s Witchwood. Ideal for large, slow enemies, offering high damage and blocking but limited parrying, low durability, and one style (Slashing). Recommended build: 60“ Flamed Blade, Concave Fuller Cross Section, Big Guard, Medium Pommel for maximized damage and block, but requires frequent repairs.
• Flamberge: Defeat 60 Vexers. Commonly found in The Hollow Point and Kar-Lethel Swamp. A defensive greatsword with excellent blocking and parrying capabilities due to its Ricasso characteristic. Recommended build: 60“ Ricasso Blade, Convex Cross Section, Big Guard, Medium Pommel for high Block, quick Parry, decent attack, and modest Durability.
• Great Falx: Defeat 10 Grilled Putrids. Found near the Cellar Anvil in The Crimson Fort and later in Dorens Grave. Offers quick horizontal slashing attacks. Styles include Bottom Heavy, Block, Recurved, and Hooked.
• Eastern Greatsword: Defeat three Shunned Templars, all found in the Iron Castle.
