AT01 - Advanced Tactic 1: Bringing Down the Chopper

Learn how to bring down helicopters in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare using RPGs and LMGs. It takes two RPGs to destroy a chopper.

Walkthrough:

1. To bring down the helicopter, use an RPG. Aim the sight at the back half of the hovering chopper and fire. It consistently takes two RPGs, even with the Sonic Boom perk.
2. Immediately after landing an RPG shot, switch to your primary weapon and fire on the helicopter. Less than one magazine from any weapon other than a Skorpion will finish the job.
3. Sniping the helicopter is possible after one RPG hit. Pistols may also work, but shotguns are ineffective due to range.
4. The accurate range of an RPG is limited, approximately 50-60 yards. You will likely need to land two RPGs or use your primary weapon after one RPG hit.
5. Hammering the helicopter's rotor with a gripped or mounted LMG is effective. Fire from cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects), such as behind concrete walls, under trailers, or behind destroyed vehicles.
6. When firing through a window, aim when only about half of the chopper is visible to avoid being targeted immediately.
7. Using a suppressed Assault Rifle (AR) is effective, as it makes you less of a threat and prevents you from appearing on the recon map (radar (your minimap with nearby blips and threats marked)) when firing full auto.
8. If your teammate lands an RPG shot, finish the job with your primary weapon. Less than one magazine from an AR or most Submachine Guns (SMGs) is needed after an RPG hit.
9. On maps like Downpour, Bog, and Countdown, you can often destroy the chopper before it attacks by hitting it during its approach. Grips on LMGs are useful attachments for this.
10. The easiest chopper kill is on Downpour from the high side, where the helicopter hovers outside its kill zone relative to that position.
