Pre-release

The official word on Dead or Alive 5 Last Round first came out in Japan at an event called the "Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Arcade Fighting Carnival" on August 31st, 2014. Shortly after, on September 1st, a trailer dropped showing some cool stuff:

• The return of Crimson, who you might remember from Dead or Alive 2.
• The classic Danger Zone stage is back from the very first Dead or Alive.
• New tag intros to spice things up.
• A new costume for Eliot and Marie Rose.
• Fresh hairstyles for Kasumi, Kokoro, Rachel, Hitomi, and Tina.

That Japanese trailer also hinted at a crossover with Marvelous' game, Senran Kagura Estival Versus.

Later, at the Tokyo Game Show 2014, there was a playable version of the game. It had two empty slots on the character select screen, which got people guessing! Then, on September 19th, the official website announced the "Soft Engine" for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. This tech was designed to make the characters' skin look more realistic and softer. Famitsu also confirmed that two brand-new characters, one male and one female, would be joining the roster.

Things got more concrete on October 23rd when it was announced that the game would be launching in February 2015. They also revealed details about a free-to-play Core Fighters version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, plus some special Collector's Editions for Japan.
