To improve the items sold at shops in Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny, you must pass a bill through the Dark Assembly. The Product Rank can be increased by one per chapter, and this is not tied to Customer Rank as in previous titles. Upon reaching the end of the game’s story (Postlude), the maximum Product Rank is 15, while the maximum Customer Rank is 12.

The maximum number of items you can possess is not fixed and can be increased, potentially related to the highest level item you own, capping at 2000 items.

Similar to prior games in the series, a character's equipment receives a percentage boost when two or more items share the same rarity. In Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny, this rarity boost applies as long as the items are of Rare, Legendary, or Epic rarity, regardless of their specific rarity number (1-100).
