In Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, diligently saving your progress is paramount to avoiding frustration and loss of valuable playtime. The primary method of saving is through designated Churches found in most towns and settlements. Upon entering a church, you will be greeted by a Priest who offers several services, including the crucial option to 'Save Game'. This action records your current progress, including character levels, inventory, gold, and quest status. It is highly recommended to save your game frequently, especially after significant story advancements, acquiring rare items, or defeating challenging bosses.

Beyond churches, certain key story moments and the completion of specific dungeons may trigger Auto-Saves. While these provide a safety net, they are not a substitute for manual saving. The game also uses a checkpoint system within dungeons and larger areas. If you are defeated in battle, you will typically respawn at the most recently activated checkpoint or the entrance of the area, often with a penalty to your gold. However, your experience points and character levels are generally retained. This mechanic encourages exploration and risk-taking, as a single defeat won't erase all your hard-earned progress.
