Power Generation: Steam Power

Learn to generate power in Factorio using Steam Power: offshore pumps, boilers, and steam engines for your factory.

Your factory will quickly demand more power than you can manually fuel. The first major power source is Steam Power. You'll need a Offshore Pump to draw water, Boilers to heat the water into steam (fueled by coal or wood), and Steam Engines to convert steam into electricity.

Connect your Steam Engines to your factory using Power Poles. Ensure your power grid is robust enough to handle the demands of your growing factory. A good ratio is 1 Offshore Pump to 14 Boilers to 10 Steam Engines for optimal efficiency.
