Complete the Fallout 76 First Contact quest. Find Pennington, loot the Responder Corpse, and register as a volunteer in Flatwoods.

    Head down the stairs to find the robot Pennington.

    Find the Responder Corpse (down the stairs after Pennington).
  3. 3
    Loot the Responder Corpse to receive: Machete (feel free to equip), Pre-War Money, and Orders from Maria Chavez.

    Head to the Isolated Cabin (follow the quest marker on your compass and map (the minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen) displays nearby objectives)).

    Continue to the Overseer's C.A.M.P. (continue following the quest marker).

    Listen to the Overseer's Log.

    Leave the C.A.M.P. and head to the Flatwoods.

    In the Flatwoods, head to the Command Post.

    Inside the Command Post, locate the Overseer's Cache, containing the Overseer's Log - Flatwoods.

    Listen to the Overseer's Log - Flatwoods.

    Leave the Command Post, and head to the Volunteer Building.

    Inside the Volunteer Building, locate a Terminal (there are two, it doesn't matter which one you choose).

    At the Terminal, register to become a volunteer.
Tips
  • You will start to find robots and monsters outside the Vault 76 bunker; the first robots are easy to fight with fists, a knife, or a machete.
  • Follow the quest marker on your compass and map to find subsequent locations.
