Deling City

Explore Deling City in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. Find Caraway's Mansion, the Tomb of the Unknown King, and learn about valuable card refinements and items.

Deling City can be confusing, but its bus system is straightforward. Buses travel in circuits from the central plaza. Your objective is Caraway's Mansion. If you're doing the Queen of Cards sidequest, head to the Shopping Arcade (right from the main square or take a bus) and play the man in black across from the Junk Shop to collect your reward.

Refinement Moment #5: If you have the Kiros Card (from the Queen of Cards), use Card Mod to turn it into three Accelerators. Accelerators teach Auto-Haste, a powerful ability. You can teach this to your GFs now or later. If you're concerned about losing Rare Cards, remember you can obtain unlimited copies on Disc 4. Mod any Rare Card you don't plan to use, unless it's needed for the Queen of Cards quest.

You can visit the Item Shop and the Junk Shop, especially if you've collected ingredients for ultimate weapons like Squall's and Selphie's.

Head to Caraway's Mansion (next screen left from the main square). Speak to the soldier outside to get a student's ID number (unique each playthrough). He sells a Location Displayer for 5,000 Gil and hints for 3,000 Gil each. The Location Displayer is unique and won't be available after you give the guard the ID.

Perfect Game Alert #8: Buy the Location Displayer now for completion purposes.

After receiving your objective, the guard will escort you out of town. You can rent a car or head to the World Map.

Obtaining the ID Number

The Tomb of the Unknown King is on a small cape northeast of Deling City. You'll need to travel there, possibly encountering enemies like Abyss Worm, Armadodo, and Chimera. The outer area has a Protect Draw Point. Inside, follow the linear path and examine the sword to find the ID number. You can explore the Tomb further to find a new GF.

Planning the Operation

Before proceeding, you can lose the Sacred Card to the Queen of Cards in Dollet. Save your game and lose the card. If she doesn't go to Balamb, reset and try again. You can win the Sacred Card back from her son. You can keep it or Card Mod it into 100x Dino Bone for Quake Magic.

Refinement Moment #6: If you obtained the Minotaur Card from the Tomb of the Unknown King, Card Mod it into 10x Adamantine for ultimate weapons. These also teach Vit+60%. Leave the Sacred Card for now unless you've already lost and won it back.

Return to Deling City and head to the Shopping Arcade. Visit the Item Shop and Junk Shop. Stay at the Hotel (100 Gil) to heal and grab the Timber Manics issue near the far bed in your room. Across the street from the Hotel, a woman uses FH rules for Triple Triad, which you can use to change rules for a future location.
