Learn how to recruit any character to your house in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Discover stat and skill requirements, support rank bonuses, and route-specific recruitment details.

Starting in Chapter 2 of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, you gain the ability to invite characters from other houses into your own. To recruit a character, your protagonist must meet specific stat and skill requirements. These conditions vary for each character and some cannot be recruited on certain routes. You can attempt to recruit each eligible character once per exploration session; if they refuse, you'll need to wait for the next session. Note that stats from classes or other passives do not count; only your protagonist's base stats matter.

Possessing support ranks with a unit significantly lowers recruitment requirements. At B support, requirements are the bare minimum, and at A support, there are no requirements. The table below outlines how support ranks affect skill and stat requirements.

Some characters automatically join if you are on their house's route. House leaders and their close aides generally cannot be recruited to other houses. Below is a list of recruitment requirements for each character.

Black Eagles

Characters in the Black Eagles house automatically join if you are on that route. Edelgard and Hubert cannot be recruited to other houses and leave if you ally with the church in Chapter 11.

Blue Lions

Characters in the Blue Lions house automatically join if you are on that route. Dimitri and Dedue cannot join other houses.

Golden Deer

Characters in the Golden Deer house automatically join if you are on that route. Claude cannot join other houses. Hilda can only be recruited normally on the Blue Lions route or after allying with the church on the Black Eagles route (Chapter 12).

Church of Seiros

Faculty members like Manuela, Shamir, Hanneman, and Alois can be recruited on any route after specific chapters if your protagonist is level 15. Flayn joins automatically in any route except the Edelgard route, where she leaves if you oppose the church in Chapter 11. Seteth joins automatically in every route except the Edelgard route, joining at the end of Part 1. Gilbert joins only in Part 2 of the Blue Lions route. Cyril and Catherine can join early if your protagonist is level 10 and 15 respectively, but cannot be recruited on the Black Eagles route until you are on the church route, where they join automatically.
