Learn about the salvage corvette and frigates in Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, including their stats, costs, and availability from mission 1.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
The salvage corvette, with a RU Cost of 220 and a build time of 31 seconds, can capture various ship classes.
  2. 2
It can capture up to 1 strike craft, 2 frigates, 3 destroyers, 5 heavy cruisers, 5 carriers, or 3 resource controllers.
  3. 3
It can also capture 2 resource collectors or 2 gravity wells/cloak generators.
  4. 4
Motherships are too large to capture with a single salvage corvette fleet.
  5. 5
Victim ships may react immediately or remain passive to the salvage corvette's approach.
  6. 6
Capturing strike craft can cause the salvage corvette to dock with a mothership or carrier; relaunch them if 'keep docked' is checked.
Tips
  • The manual states salvage corvettes can capture heavily damaged ships, but they can capture nearly any ship at 100% health.
  • Be aware that sometimes victim ships will be completely passive and ignore your salvage craft until it is too late.
  • Be aware that sometimes victim ships will immediately react to your salvage craft.
  • Be aware that capturing strike craft will result in the salvage corvette docking with the MS or carrier, so relaunch them if you have keep docked checked.

Frigate Class Ships:

Assault Frigate

Stats:

  • RU Cost: 575
  • Time to build: 61 seconds
  • Ru per sec: 9-10 RU
  • Max Velocity: 325 m/s
  • Fuel: unlimited
  • Armour: 16000
  • Firepower: 2400 ITM (90-100 in tests, 82 in V1.05)
  • Coverage: 75%
  • Type: guns and plasma bombs
  • Special Action: pushing
  • Manoeuvrability: low

Description: The first capital ship you acquire, it is poor against strike craft but has better armor and speed than the ion cannon frigate. Its 'pushing' special action can be used to break capital ship formations.

Ion Cannon Frigate

Stats:

  • RU Cost: 650
  • Time to build: 60 seconds
  • Ru per sec: 11 RU
  • Max Velocity: 300 m/s
  • Fuel: unlimited
  • Armour: 15000
  • Firepower: 4000 ITM (130-150 in tests, 138 in V1.05)
  • Coverage: 3%
  • Type: ion cannon
  • Special Action: none
  • Manoeuvrability: low

Description: Features less armor and speed than the assault frigate but significantly more firepower with its single ion cannon. Its low coverage is poor, but strike craft may lose some attacking from the frontal area.

Support Frigate

Stats:

  • RU Cost: 425
  • Time to build: 65 seconds
  • Ru per sec: 6.5 RU
  • Max Velocity: 450 m/s
  • Fuel: unlimited
  • Armour: 12000
  • Firepower: 760 ITM (20-25 in tests, 28 in V1.05)
  • Coverage: 21%*
  • Type: repair beam and gun(s)
  • Special Action: repair beam (200pt, 100 in V1.05)
  • Manoeuvrability: very low

Description: Kushan support frigates have one gun, while Taidan support frigates have two. Kushan support frigates can heal themselves, while Taidan frigates cannot. Strike craft must perform aerobatics to land on Kushan frigates. You can take strike craft into hyperspace with this frigate by selecting them as they dock. The guns on this frigate are accurate and fire almost constantly, though they have a shorter range than guns on other corvettes.

Defence Field Frigate (Taidan Only)

Stats:

  • RU Cost: 800
  • Time to build: 75 seconds
  • Ru per sec: 11 RU
  • Max Velocity: 325 m/s
  • Fuel: unlimited
  • Armour: 17,600
  • Firepower: none
  • Coverage: 100% sphere defence field
  • Type: defence field*
  • Special Action: defence field (always on) 2km radii
  • Manoeuvrability: low

Description: Extremely useful for players using fighters, especially in pairs. It is also useful when trying to capture cruisers and carriers, as only ion cannons can penetrate its defense. In single-player, you may be limited by frigate capacity, but it is a luxury in multiplayer. They are excellent in teamwork with 2 defence fighters, as they close the 5-10% vulnerability window.
