Master the Mushroom Cup in Mario Kart 64 with our detailed walkthrough. Learn strategies for Luigi Raceway, Moo Moo Farm, and Koopa Troopa Beach, including item box locations and shortcuts.
The Mushroom Cup is the easiest cup in Mario Kart 64, featuring simple tracks with easy turns and multiple routes. These courses are reminiscent of Super Mario Kart's design, being small and straightforward.
Courses in the Mushroom Cup:
- Luigi Raceway
- Moo Moo Farm
- Koopa Troopa Beach
Luigi Raceway
Luigi Raceway is the most basic track in Mario Kart 64, measuring 717 meters. It's a good track to practice power-sliding.
Guide
Start by driving on the long straightaway, holding A to accelerate. After an initial bump, you'll find item boxes. Drive into one to get an item. You'll then approach a turn; press R and tilt the control stick right to power-slide. Be careful not to start too early or late, as you might hit the grass. This turn is easy, and power-sliding is optional. Straighten out at the end.
Enter the tunnel ahead. It curves slightly at first, so power-slide a bit. It then straightens and goes downhill. Drive down and grab an item from the boxes. After that, make a short slide to center yourself on the track. For the final turn, hold R and tilt the control stick left. Aim to power-slide through the item boxes to perform a mini-turbo boost. To do this, start power-sliding and rapidly tilt the control stick right, then left, then right, then left again. The engine smoke will turn from white to yellow to red. Release to boost to the finish line.
Note: After the first line of item boxes, a hot air balloon with Luigi's face on it lowers. If you are fast enough (you may need to hop with R), you can grab an item box from below the balloon.
Strategic Trap Locations
- Place traps in either of the two wide curves, generally the center, to catch opponents.
- Place traps after bumps, especially the one before the item boxes on the first stretch, to make them harder to see.
Moo Moo Farm
Moo Moo Farm is a milk-producing farm featuring cows and Monty Moles. This course introduces in-course obstacles and is 527 meters long.
Guide
Drive forward over a small bump to reach item boxes. Take one and proceed to a turn. It's recommended to power-slide while staying on the left side of the track to avoid Monty Moles on the right, which act like hitting a shell.
After the turn, straighten out and drive forward to another line of item boxes, followed by a right turn. You can power-slide briefly, then drive forward under the bridge.
You'll reach a cluster of item boxes. Drive through them, then head towards the wall before power-sliding right. This helps avoid two groups of Monty Moles. Straighten out when you reach more item boxes. From there, drive between the pillars supporting the bridge to reach the finish line.
Alternate Route
You can risk driving on the right side of the road where Monty Moles are present. This might be faster but carries a risk.
Strategic Trap Locations
- Place traps after any bumps, as they can hide the item.
- Place traps to the left of the Monty Mole groupings. Drivers will either go out of their way to reach the wall, hit the trap, or hit the Monty Moles.
- Place traps between the central two pillars (or any pillars) at the very end of the course.
Koopa Troopa Beach
Koopa Troopa Beach is named after a rock formation resembling a Koopa Troopa. The course features nice music, several alternate paths, and hazards like crabs and trees. Do not enter the water, as it will slow you down. The course is 691 meters long.
