In Mario Kart Double Dash, you can choose between two battle modes against computer players.

Balloon Battle:

The objective is to deplete opponents' balloons by attacking them before they deplete yours. You start with one balloon, but can inflate up to two additional balloons by stopping and blowing into the DS microphone (or touching the touch screen), for a total of three. When a balloon is popped by an attack, you can inflate a new one. Ramming opponents with a Mushroom boost can steal their balloons without losing your own. The last racer with balloons wins.

Shine Runners:

In this mode, all racers are placed in a battle arena with several Shines scattered around. A timer counts down to zero. When the timer reaches zero, the characters with the fewest Shines are automatically eliminated, and the timer resets. To win, you must be the last racer remaining with the most Shines. Item boxes are present to attack other players and knock away their Shines.

Tips
  • In Balloon Battle, use Mushroom boosts to ram opponents and steal their balloons.
  • In Shine Runners, utilize item boxes to attack other players and reduce their Shine count.
  • In Balloon Battle, remember you can inflate up to 3 balloons in total.
  • In Shine Runners, pay attention to the timer to avoid elimination.
