First Steps: Survival Basics

Learn the crucial first steps in Necesse: gathering resources, crafting basic tools, building shelter, and finding food.

Once you spawn into your new world, your immediate priorities are survival and resource gathering. You'll typically start with a basic Pickaxe and Axe.

1. Gather Wood: Use your Axe to chop down trees. Wood is a fundamental resource for crafting tools, weapons, and structures. Aim for at least 50-100 wood initially.
2. Gather Stone: Use your Pickaxe to mine stone from rocks or cave walls. Stone is essential for crafting furnaces and more durable tools.
3. Craft a Workbench: Open your inventory (E) and use some wood to craft a Workbench. Place it down (Right Mouse Button) in a safe spot.
4. Craft Basic Tools: At the Workbench, craft a Wooden Sword (for combat), a Wooden Pickaxe (if yours breaks or for a spare), and a Wooden Axe (same reason).
5. Build a Shelter: Use wood to craft Wooden Walls and a Wooden Door at your Workbench. Find a flat area and build a small, enclosed structure to protect yourself from nocturnal enemies. place a Torch inside for light.
6. Find Food: Hunt small animals (rabbits, birds) for Raw Meat, or gather berries from bushes. Cook Raw Meat at a Campfire (crafted from wood and stone) to get Cooked Meat, which restores more hunger.

These initial steps will provide you with a safe base and the means to gather more advanced resources.
