Compare RollerCoaster Tycoon transport rides like the Chairlift, Miniature Railroad, and Monorail. Learn about their costs, capacities, and stats.

Chairlift

Type: Transport

Vehicles: Chairlift Cars (2 passengers per car, up to 12 cars); Chairlift Cars (Alternative) (2 passengers per car, up to 12 cars) (Loopy Landscapes only)

Maximum Track Slope: 25 degrees

Max Height Above Ground: 173 feet

Description: Cars hang from a steel cable which runs continuously from one end of the chairlift to the other end and around large turnaround wheels at each end.

Cost: $1,440 upwards

The Chairlift is a favorite transport ride due to its low cost, ability to be built to great heights, and high speed, making uphill travel easy. Its covered cars eliminate the rain factor. It is the choice transport ride in tough terrain, despite its limited capacity of 24 passengers max.

Overall Rating: 7.8/10

Miniature Railroad

Type: Transport

Vehicles: Steam Train (6 passengers per carriage, up to 8 carriages); Steam Train (Covered Cars) (6 passengers per carriage, up to 8 carriages) (Corkscrew Follies & Loopy Landscapes); American Style Steam Train (6 passengers per carriage, up to 8 carriages) (Loopy Landscapes only)

Maximum Track Slope: 25 degrees

Max Height Above Ground: 29 feet

Description: Narrow-gauge railroad track, with miniature passenger trains.

Cost: $1,300 and upwards

The Miniature Railroad is a slow transport ride, especially uphill, and cannot be built as high as other rides of its type. It lacks covered vehicles until Corkscrew Follies, making it susceptible to rain. Its capacity is its only upside, though still less than the Monorail.

Overall rating: 3.2/10

Monorail

Type: Transport

Vehicles: Small Monorail Cars (1-5 in a train; 4 passengers per car); Large Monorail Train (2 end cars, between 0 and 6 middle cars; 10 passengers per car)

Maximum Track Slope: 25 degrees

Max Height Above Ground: 32 feet

Description: Track is a box-section steel rail supported on square-section steel posts. Trains are powered, and run along the top of the rail with additional wheels on either side for stability.

Cost: $1,550 and upwards

The Monorail is a highly effective transport ride with covered cars that protect against rain. It has the highest passenger capacity in the game, up to 140 passengers. It also allows for a "shuttle mode" for point-to-point transport without completing a circuit. Its downside is its low maximum height and slow uphill speed.

Overall rating: 6.5/10

Suspended Monorail

Type: Transport

Vehicles: Suspended Monorail Train (8 passengers per car, up to 4 cars)

Maximum Track Slope: 25 degrees

Maximum Height Above Ground: 52 feet

Description: Track is a box-section steel rail suspended by steel support legs. Trains are powered, and hang underneath the rail

Cost: $2,400 and upwards

Available in Corkscrew Follies & Loopy Landscapes, the Suspended Monorail can be constructed higher than the standard Monorail and tends to have a higher excitement rating due to being suspended. However, it suffers the same uphill speed flaw as other powered counterparts and appears less frequently in scenarios.

Overall Rating: 5.5/10

Tips
  • The cost for prefabricated rides is based off being built on flat ground; imperfect terrain will increase the cost.
  • Not all special track elements are available for every ride type.
