Dive into SimCity 4's gameplay with detailed insights into God mode, Mayor mode, and My Sim mode. Discover the different versions of this classic city-building simulation.
This guide covers the core gameplay elements and versions of SimCity 4.
Gameplay
SimCity 4 retains much of the gameplay from previous installments, with the significant addition of regional gameplay. Players can now negotiate with and even build neighboring cities, making small towns a viable option. Civic buildings now affect only their immediate surroundings, with adjustable funding and maintenance costs.
Modes
God mode
In God mode, players have extensive freedom to modify the terrain, add trees and wild animals, and perform operations like erosion. This mode is generally unavailable once a city is established, unless cheats are used.
Mayor mode
Mayor mode is the primary focus of the game. Players construct cities while managing their budget, zoning areas, placing roads, and building structures. Special requirements unlock additional reward buildings.
My Sim mode
My Sim mode allows players to create or import a Sim from The Sims and place them in their city for feedback. If the Rush Hour expansion is installed, this mode also provides access to U-Drive-It Mode.
Visuals
SimCity 4 and its Rush Hour expansion feature improved 3D graphics, notably enhancing the traffic simulation with 3D visuals.
