Explore Guy Konrad's, Catherine's, Mark Sarang's, and Robin Bass's rooms in SOMA. Find key items and lore about the ARK project.
After walking through the tunnel until the lights switch on, you'll find a HEALING POD (a device that restores health) on the right. Proceed up the ramp to an intersection.
Walkthrough
- 1From the intersection, go left into a storage room.
- 2Continue straight ahead from the ramp to find a door leading to a lounge.
- 3The two doors on the left of the lounge lead into bathrooms. You can see your reflection in the mirrors, revealing you are a robot.
- 4Off the lounge is a hallway containing the Living Quarters.
- 5On the table by the TV in the lounge, you can find a couple of pictures.
- 6Enter the Living Quarters.
- 7Guy Konrad's Room: Remove the pneumatic seal from Guy Konrad's room. Inside the locker, you'll find a couple of pictures. There's also a poster by the bed with pictures. On the desk, locate a schematic for modifications to a Maser tool, likely intended to create a weapon.
- 8Catherine's Room: The next open door leads to Catherine Chun's room. Inside her locker is Toby, her teddy bear. Pick up the device on the floor by the bookshelf. Catherine will mention Reed's Vivarium. Examine the tablet on the desk. The Journal entries reveal Catherine's inspiration for the ARK: Imogen Reed tested a WAU-corrupted machine that created a perfect simulation of the room and Reed in a digital space (June 6, 2013). A few days later (June 14), the WAU machine was studied. The Vivarium machine functions similarly to Catherine's AR capsule but allows the simulation to persist within it, not being limited by initial content. A week later (June 21), Catherine realizes she can save humanity by using the Pilot Seats to mimic the scanning technique of the Vivarium machine. The next day, Catherine confirms that using the Pilot Seats will work for creating living scans of the remaining Pathos-II members and that the WAU has likely been using the Pilot Seats to create Mockingbirds of individuals who have used them. July 3 marks the official start of the ARK Project, where everyone will be scanned into the AR Capsule and launched into space. However, on July 13, Mark Sarang committed suicide after his scan, believing that having only one copy of himself in the ARK would allow him to physically live on it by ensuring continuity. The AR-Capsule contains notes. The simulated Reed is described as "too real" to interact with other scans in the AR Capsule. Richard Thabo provided Catherine with AI templates that were unfolded into the AR Capsule.
- 9Mark Sarang's Room: Proceed to Mark Sarang's room. Remove the pneumatic seal. On Mark's desk is a letter, essentially a suicide note, explaining his actions to enter the ARK. In the top right drawer of the desk, find an audio recording device. Use it to play back Sarang's observations. He theorizes that the human body, composed of 75 trillion constantly replaced cells, maintains selfhood through a continuous flow of thought and perception, creating an unbroken chain of continuity. He posits that the conscious mind is not the brain's pattern but an emergent entity based on it. He also notes that the physical and digital selves will diverge due to different experiences. In the top left drawer, find a confidential report from Carthage Industries regarding the imminent Class 3 extinction event. It includes a diagram and a picture of an object, possibly the AR Capsule or ARK, with the following markings: pAc: 4444, pBc: mx344*sas788845. The book on the nightstand is "The Nature of Identity" by Pavlina Martinu. The top drawer of the nightstand contains a letter dated March 7, 2102, congratulating Sarang on making the WAU a station-wide presence. It states that Dr. Johan Ross is to "steer and study" the WAU from Alpha and authorizes Julia Dahl at Omicron to "forcefully eliminate any opposition". The second drawer of the nightstand holds a clipboard with estimates about the extinction event, with the number "218" circled. On the wall, you'll find the Warden Unit Circuit Map, with various pictures pinned to it showing different WAU growths.
- 10Robin Bass's Room: Remove the pneumatic lock from Robin Bass's room. On the bed, you'll find a straight razor and significant bloodstains. Near the bed are a couple of pictures with crayon scribbles over ARK environment renders. Another picture shows Robin with a guy on the floor. A picture on the desk can also be found. Robin's suicide note reads, "We're all dying anyway. I'm all in. I put my faith in Sarang and the continuity." More personal pictures are on the bulletin board and one more is located by the keyboard.
- 11Martin Fisher's room: This room contains a HEALING POD.
- 12At the end of the hallway, a window reveals another hallway with more personnel rooms. You can hear something making noises and moving around in that hallway.
- 13Research Area: The right path from the intersection leads to a sealed door entering the Research area. The door to the Theta Laboratory is closed.
- 14The room on the right is labeled Research, where Catherine worked on the ARK project. The computers cannot connect to the mainframe; you must reset the router in the sub-level vault. Open the box to the right of the first computer and take the device.
- 15The smaller room is Neurograph Storage, where scans were stored on memory chips. Use the green buttons to rotate the chip storage racks. You will find one intact memory chip; all others are broken.
- 16The Pilot Chair is in the room on the left, where Catherine performed her scans. TOUCH the DATA BUFFER. Catherine requires assistance in the scan room because Konrad committed suicide after the scan using a maser tool.
- 17Go to the desk. You can plug the device obtained from the Research room into a connector near the phone, indicating it's a portable hard drive. The mainframe still needs to be brought online.
- 18Enter the small room behind the pilot chair. Check the terminal. It contains Legacy Scans from NanComp.
Tips
- Pay close attention to the journal entries and notes found in the rooms, as they provide crucial lore about the ARK project and the characters' motivations.
- The device found in the Research room is essential for interacting with terminals later.
- Be aware of the sounds in the hallway outside the personnel rooms; they indicate a potential threat.
