Guide to collecting 100 gems and freeing 4 dragons in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! Artisans Home, the first level.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
After the opening cutscene (a non-interactive cinematic the game plays automatically) (a Dragon TV interview that angers Gnasty Gnorc, causing him to freeze dragons and turn their gems into soldiers), you begin in Artisans Home.
  2. 2
Move forward to find your first collectable gem.
  3. 3
Turn around and head back along the path. Take the left turn and run down the slope.
  4. 4
Collect the two red gems ahead.
  5. 5
Turn slightly left and jump across a series of platforms, collecting gems along the way. Jump to the highest platform to collect two green gems (each counts as 2 red gems).
  6. 6
Jump back to the ground. Turn right and approach the green enemy, a Gem Thief Gnorc.
  7. 7
Attack the Gem Thief Gnorc by flaming (O button) or charging ([] button). It will drop a red gem upon defeat, and two more upon subsequent hits. It explodes into feathery stuff.
  8. 8
Collect nearby gems, including two near the water and four red gems on another platform.
  9. 9
Turn left and release Delbin, who is in front of the water. He explains that the yellow dragonfly following you is Sparx, your health meter.
  10. 10
If Sparx is hit, he turns blue, then green. A third hit makes him disappear. A fourth hit results in losing a life and respawning at the last checkpoint (an auto-save point you restart from on death) (a dragon or the start of the level). Losing all lives results in a Game Over, losing unsaved data and respawning at the game's start.
  11. 11
Turn right and go towards the green enemies on the hill. Collect three red gems.
  12. 12
Flame one of the Scardey Gnorcs before it runs away to make it drop a purple gem (counts as 5 red gems).
  13. 13
Enter the bushy area. Take the left route for red gems.
  14. 14
In the middle of the area, find a purple chest and a red-brown chest. Flame or charge them to open. The red one contains a green gem. The purple one contains a life.
  15. 15
A portal labeled 'Dark Hollow' is also in this area. Leave it for now.
  16. 16
Collect two more gems on the other side and exit the bushy area.
  17. 17
Run over the hill to find two more Scardey Gnorcs and a portal labeled 'Stone Hill'. Ignore the portal and chase down the gnorcs for their gems.
  18. 18
Position yourself on top of the hill and turn around to face a platform with treasure.
  19. 19
Jump (X button, holding down gains more height) and press X again at the peak of your jump to glide forward. Assist the glide. Tap Triangle to drop from the glide if you overshoot.
  20. 20
Collect two red gems and two green gems on the platform. The red chest contains another green gem.
  21. 21
Drop down to the right and run alongside the wall into a 'hidden' area.
  22. 22
Collect two red gems and four red chests, each containing a green gem.
  23. 23
If Sparx is not yellow, flame or charge the sheep in this area to release a butterfly for Sparx to eat and heal himself.
  24. 24
Release Argus, who is next to the sheep. He explains that the Artisans boss is behind the stone dragon's mouth and requires entering and exiting Stone Hill, Dark Hollow, or Town Square to reach.
Tips
  • Sparx's color indicates Spyro's health: Yellow (full), Blue (damaged), Green (nearly depleted). If Sparx disappears, Spyro is one hit away from losing a life.
  • Butterflies heal Sparx and restore a life if he has disappeared.
  • Charging enemies is often faster than flaming them.
  • Green gems are worth 2 red gems, and purple gems are worth 5 red gems.
  • Use the glide ability to reach platforms that are otherwise inaccessible.
