Dive deep into SSX Tricky's advanced techniques and terms. Learn about Uber moves, the rivalry system, and how to master the 'tricky' boost for ultimate snowboarding dominance.

This section covers advanced techniques and terms used in SSX Tricky, focusing on gameplay mechanics that go beyond basic snowboarding.

Gameplay Mechanics

The core gameplay builds upon the original SSX, featuring remixed tracks from the previous game and two new ones: Garibaldi and Alaska. The most significant new addition is the Uber moves. By filling the boost bar to its maximum, players can perform these special moves where characters take their feet off the board. Successfully landing an Uber move grants a temporary period of infinite boost, which can be extended by performing more Uber moves.

Each character can perform five distinct Uber moves. If a character is using a board that matches their style, they can also perform a personal Uber move. Landing six Uber moves in succession, which spells out 'tricky' on the boost bar, results in infinite boost for the remainder of the level.

Rivalry System

SSX Tricky introduces a rivalry system in the World Circuit mode. A player's relationship with AI characters can influence gameplay. Being friendly towards an AI character leads to favorable treatment, while antagonizing them, often by attacking them during races to fill the adrenaline bar, will make them hostile in subsequent events.

Gameplay Modes

SSX Tricky offers three primary gameplay modes:

  • Freeride: This mode is for casual play and exploration. It allows for one or two players and is ideal for learning courses and practicing tricks. Completing trick chapters in Freeride can unlock character outfits.
  • Practice: Designed for beginners, this mode allows players to get accustomed to snowboarding and practice tricks without the pressure of competition.
  • World Circuit: This is the main competitive mode where players can unlock characters, boards, and outfits. It features two event types:
    • Race: Players compete in Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and Finals, needing to finish in the top three to win a track. Medals awarded are Bronze, Silver, and Gold. There are eight tracks to complete, and players must aim to stay ahead of five opponents.
    • Show-off: In this mode, players focus on performing a variety of tricks to achieve the highest possible score.

Completing the World Circuit mode in Race unlocks the 'Untracked' track for Freeplay. 'Pipedream' is similar to Showoff mode.

Single Event

This mode allows players to compete in a single heat of any event from World Circuit mode. Medals are awarded based on performance, and a second human player can join.
