Chapter 8: The Symbological Research Facility

Welcome to the Symbological Research Facility, a complex and often confusing area. This chapter focuses on navigating its intricate pathways, solving puzzles, and acquiring valuable items. Be prepared for several encounters with robotic enemies and a few challenging boss fights.

Navigating the Facility Entrance

Upon entering the facility, you'll find yourself in a large, open area. Your immediate goal is to locate the central control room to activate the power and open locked doors.

• Initial Path: Head straight from the entrance. You'll encounter your first group of facility security bots. These enemies are weak to fire-based attacks.
• Item Acquisition:
  • Look for a small alcove to your left after the first enemy encounter. You'll find a chest containing Blueberry x3.
  • Continue down the main corridor. Before the first major intersection, check behind some crates on the right for a hidden chest with a Strength Potion.
• Central Control Room Access: Proceed to the large double doors at the end of the initial corridor. This leads to the Central Control Room.

Central Control Room and Power Activation

Inside the Central Control Room, you'll need to activate the main power grid to proceed deeper into the facility.

• Console Interaction: Approach the main console in the center of the room. A short cutscene will trigger, explaining the power outage.
• Power Core Location: The console indicates that the power core is located in the East Wing.
• Unlocking Doors: Activating the console will also unlock several doors in the immediate vicinity, including the path to the East Wing.
• Item Acquisition:
  • On a desk near the console, pick up the Facility Map (East Wing). This is crucial for navigation.
  • In the far corner of the room, behind a series of broken terminals, you'll find a chest containing Sage x2.

East Wing Exploration

The East Wing is characterized by its winding corridors and numerous locked research labs. Keep an eye on your map to avoid getting lost.

• Path to East Wing: Exit the Central Control Room and take the newly unlocked door to the right.
• Enemy Encounters: Expect to face more advanced security bots and new enemies like "Plasma Drones." Plasma Drones are agile and can inflict paralysis; consider equipping accessories that grant paralysis resistance.
• Research Lab 1 (Optional):
  • Midway through the East Wing, you'll find a door labeled "Research Lab 1." This is an optional area but contains valuable items.
  • Inside, defeat the "Experimental Subject" enemy (weak to ice).
  • Collect the Intellect Potion from the console and a Meteorite from a chest in the back.
• Power Core Chamber: Continue following the main path indicated on your map. You'll eventually reach a larger chamber with a glowing energy core.
• Activating the Power Core: Interact with the console next to the power core. This will restore full power to the facility, opening more doors and activating previously dormant systems.
• Item Acquisition: Before leaving the Power Core Chamber, check the small storage unit to the left of the core for a Resurrection Elixir.

West Wing and Data Retrieval

With power restored, your next objective is to access the West Wing to retrieve critical data. This area introduces new environmental hazards.

• Return to Central Control: Head back to the Central Control Room. A new path to the West Wing will now be accessible from here.
• West Wing Hazards: The West Wing features areas with electrified floors. Watch for sparking panels and use the non-electrified pathways. Taking damage from these floors can be significant.
• Enemy Encounters: "Heavy Duty Bots" are common here. They have high defense but are slow. Focus on breaking their guard.
• Data Terminal Location: Navigate through the electrified corridors. The data terminal is located in a large server room at the far end of the West Wing.
• Data Retrieval Puzzle: To access the data, you'll need to activate three smaller terminals in the correct sequence. The sequence is hinted at by glowing lights on the main server rack.
  1. Activate the terminal with the green light.
  2. Activate the terminal with the blue light.
  3. Activate the terminal with the red light.
  Incorrect sequences will trigger a minor enemy ambush.
• Item Acquisition:
  • In a small office adjacent to the server room, find a chest containing Attack Breaker x2.
  • After successfully retrieving the data, a hidden compartment will open near the main terminal, revealing a Defensive Unit (Accessory).

Confrontation and Exit

With the data secured, prepare for a final confrontation before you can leave the facility.

• Return Path: As you attempt to exit the West Wing, the facility will go into lockdown.
• Boss Battle: Security Override Unit
  • Location: Main corridor of the West Wing, near the entrance to the Central Control Room.
  • Strategy:
    • The Security Override Unit is a large, heavily armored robot. It has two main attack patterns: a wide-area shockwave and a targeted laser beam.
    • Its weak point is its exposed core, which becomes vulnerable after it performs its shockwave attack.
    • Utilize characters with high single-target damage during this vulnerability window.
    • The laser beam can be interrupted with well-timed heavy attacks or specific battle skills.
    • Keep your party spread out to minimize damage from the shockwave.
    • Consider equipping characters with accessories that boost defense or grant resistance to electrical damage.
  • Rewards: Defeating the Security Override Unit grants a significant amount of EXP, Fol, and a Reinforced Circuit Board (Crafting Material).
• Exiting the Facility: After the boss battle, the lockdown will lift. Proceed back through the Central Control Room and out the main entrance to complete Chapter 8.
