Friendly Neighbour

Walkthrough for the Friendly Neighbour mission in State of Decay 2. Learn how to deal with infestations, collect medicine, find plague samples, and destroy a Plague Heart.

Soon after completing the previous mission, you'll get a radio call from one of your neighbours in the area. They'll ask you to go visit them for some help, set a waypoint on your map to the mission icon. If you haven't already, I suggest changing your commanding character to give your current character some rest. After you head on over to your neighbour, they'll inform you of an infestation in the area caused by a Screamer. Before heading over to the site where the infestation is located, you'll have an optional objective to trade with the neighbouring character at any point during the mission. When you get to the infestation site, you'll have one Screamer and 9 normal zombies to take care of. Try taking out the Screamer as soon as you can, preferably with a gun as melee will be difficult with all of the other zombies crowding around it. Once it's dead, take out the rest of the infestation with either a gun or melee, whichever works best for you. After all the zombies are dead, talk to the neighbour and you'll be given a new objective to search for medicine around the site. After talking with your neighbour again, you'll explain how you're looking for plague samples, and he'll direct you on your map where you need to go.

Head back to base to drop off the medicine bag you found and talk to the doctor, you'll get a new objective to head to a site to collect the last samples to make a cure for your partner. Follow the way point, and you'll see you have multiple Plague Zombies to choose from. The easiest way I found was to find a spot near no other zombies, or make a spot by killing a zombie or two in your way, and then taking the Plague Zombies out with a gun. The further away from other zombies you are while you make these shots, the less likely you are to cause attention. Once all of the Plague Zombies are dead, head over to collect your spoils before returning to base. Drop off all of the samples you picked up in the community locker and then head down to the infirmary to make the cure. You can immediately use it on your partner character to cure them of the Blood Plague.

After curing your partner, the friendly neighbour returns to tell you about the Plague Heart further in the town. You'll get an objective to destroy the Plague Heart, along with the neighbour being a follower to help you, I'd take the soda can bombs they offer you as the heart will have a lot of health. Enlist as many followers as you can from your community before heading out, the site the heart will be located at will be crawling with Plague Zombies. As you approach the building, try and sneak as close as possible before getting into conflict with any zombies in the area, once one spots you, the rest will quickly follow. I suggest keeping your main focus on destroying the heart, and letting your followers deal with any zombies that spot you. The can bombs won't be enough to destroy the heart, but it will eventually die after a little while of melee attacks and gunshots, just be sure to back away before it can attack you with gas. Once it's dead, head back to base and you'll get a choice to either recruit the neighbour or reject him.

After completing this mission, how you play will be completely up to you as each of the characters in your community has a different leadership in mind. Each leader will have their own set of missions to complete after their chosen.
