Learn how to secure your first main base in State of Decay 2 after escaping the refugee camp. This guide covers finding the house, clearing zombies, and claiming it.
Alright, you've made it out of that refugee camp! Now, the game's gonna drop you into a town with a busted-up ride. Don't sweat it, this is part of the plan. Your next big move is finding a place to call home, and the game's gonna point you right to it.
First things first, pull up your map – just hit the M key. You'll spot a house with a bright orange icon not too far from where your car conks out. Click on that icon to set a waypoint. As you drive or walk towards it, you'll see other buildings and houses. Some might be crawling with zombies, others might have friendly survivors who could become your new neighbors. You can totally check them out if you want, or just make a beeline for that orange house – it's your call.
Once you get to the house, you're not walking into an empty place. Expect a few zombies trying to bash their way in from the outside, and a few more chilling inside. Keep an eye out for a Plague Zombie – you absolutely need to take it down before it gets a chance to bite you or the army guard who's tagging along. That guy's important, so don't let him get sick!
To officially claim the house as your main base, you've got some cleanup to do. You'll need to search every single room and clear out every last zombie. Your minimap will be your best friend here, showing little square icons for any rooms you still need to check. Once the last zombie is down and every room is clear, you'll officially claim the house, and this mission will be wrapped up.
After you claim it, the rest of your community will start rolling in. You'll immediately get access to new facilities and stations to help you manage your new home. Plus, you'll see a new status display in the top-left corner of your screen. This'll keep you updated on your supplies, what needs doing around the base, and if anyone's unfortunately come down with the Blood Plague. Welcome home, survivor!
