Checkpoint Flags

Learn about Checkpoint Flags in Super Mario Bros. 2. Touching a flag activates the midway point and can turn small Mario into Super Mario.

As you run through a stage, you may notice a flag sitting on the ground. If you touch it, you will activate the stage's midway point (a type of checkpoint). If you are small Mario, you will automatically become Super Mario, which is equivalent to using a free Mushroom. If you die or exit and then reenter the stage, you will be able to start from the midway point, as long as you do not enter another stage before returning.
