Learn how skills and leveling work in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, including primary, major, and minor skill selection.

There are 35 skills available in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. When creating your character, you will select 12 of these skills to be part of your class. These 12 skills are divided into three categories: 3 Primary skills, which start in the high 20s or low 30s; 3 Major skills, which start in the low 20s; and 6 Minor skills, which start around 14-16.

You can still use and improve any skills you did not initially select for your class. However, these unselected skills will begin at a low rating of 5, improve slowly, and will not contribute to your character's overall leveling up.

Each skill is listed with its Governing Attribute. A higher governing attribute for a skill will provide bonuses when you use that skill.

Tips
  • It is important to choose at least one melee weapon skill.
  • There is rarely a need to select more than one weapon skill.
  • Consider the impact of Archery or Hand skills on your build.
