Learn about Lycanthropy in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. Discover how to contract, manage, and cure the disease, including its powerful advantages and minor drawbacks.
Lycanthropy is a special disease in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall that allows you to shapeshift into a powerful beast, either a werewolf or a wereboar. The form you take depends on the creature that infected you; it's recommended to be infected by a werewolf for its superior form.
Similar to Vampirism, contracting Lycanthropy results in a nightmare. If not cured within three days, you will permanently become a lycanthrope.
Drawbacks of Lycanthropy:
- You involuntarily transform into your beast form during the night of the full moon, reverting to human form only in the morning or after feeding.
- While shapeshifted, you cannot use items or access your inventory, preventing you from looting bodies.
- You must consume the soul of an innocent person once per month to maintain your maximum health. Failure to do so reduces your maximum health to four hit points. Feeding restores your health to normal. This must be an NPC found wandering outside in towns.
- Werewolf hunters will actively pursue you, functioning similarly to vampire hunters.
Advantages of Lycanthropy:
- You gain a +40 bonus to Strength, Endurance, Agility, and Speed, capping at 100.
- You receive a +30 bonus to Running, Jumping, Climbing, Swimming, Stealth, Critical Strike, and Hand to Hand skills, which can exceed 100.
- While you cannot use weapons when shifted, your natural claws are extremely lethal.
- While shapeshifted, you can only be harmed by Silver or better weapons. Since most city guards and lower-level monsters use iron or steel weapons, you are nearly invulnerable to them. Magic, however, can still harm you.
- You are granted a spell called "Lycanthropy," allowing you to shift into and out of your beast form at will, except during the nights of the full moon.
Lycanthropy can enhance your gameplay with significant perks and stat boosts without being overly restrictive, unlike Vampirism. The ability to transform into a powerful creature at will is a considerable advantage.
Getting Cured:
Curing Lycanthropy is achieved similarly to curing Vampirism, though the associated quest from hunters is distinct and unsettling. Alternatively, a Witch's potion can also be used for a cure.
