Navigate Daggerfall's 12 background questions like a pro. Learn which answers boost your skills, which items to choose for gold, and exploit a disease resistance bug!

Alright, so you've built your character class – nice! Now, the game's gonna hit you with 12 questions to really nail down who you are in Tamriel. These questions cover everything from what you've studied the longest (think skills!) to who you worship, and even what you're worst at or who you really can't stand.

The good news is, most of these answers are pretty straightforward. Spend the most time studying archery? Your archery skill will get a nice little boost. Worship Julianos? Your reputation with his temple will go up a bit. Easy peasy.

But, there are a few things you'll want to keep an eye out for:

  • The Ebony Dagger Trick: If you get asked about an item the Emperor gives you, and you can answer "An ebony dagger," do it! Seriously, even if you're not planning on using short blades, this thing sells for a ton of gold. If you *are* going to use short blades, it's also a fantastic starting weapon that'll serve you well for ages.
  • Weapons & Armor? Nah. Besides that ebony dagger, or maybe a silver flail if you're lucky, don't bother asking for weapons or armor. If you say the Emperor gave you a full suit of armor, you'll end up with basic IRON armor – the absolute worst plate in the game. Trust me, you'll get enough basic protection (leather, chain, or iron) just by leaving the starter dungeon. A quick trip to an armorer will get you sorted out soon enough. Instead, aim for things like books or gems; they sell for a lot and give you that sweet starting cash. More gold early on is always a win.
  • A Little Disease Bug: Here's a quirky one: if you choose "Critical Weakness to Disease" as a disadvantage and also say you "have the most trouble Resisting Diseases," the game gets a bit confused. The result? You become practically immune to diseases! Don't sweat it, though – you can still catch vampirism or lycanthropy if that's your jam.
