Your step-by-step guide to completing Mission 5: Crash Site - Confrontation in The Long Dark. Learn how to activate the distress beacon, deal with the Presidential clone, and rescue the President.
Alright, welcome to Mission 5: Crash Site - Confrontation. This one can be a little tricky, but we'll get through it together. The main goals here are to activate a distress beacon, take care of a presidential clone, and then find and rescue the actual President.
- 1
Activate the distress beacon: As soon as you spawn in, hug the right wall and keep moving forward. You'll run into a couple of guards. Take them out with headshots if you can – it saves ammo. Grab their ammo if you need it. Head left from where the left-most guard was, and you'll find the escape capsule. Just walk up to it and press the Action button (B) to activate the beacon. Objective one, done!
- 2
Retire the Presidential clone: Now, turn around from the capsule and stick to the wall on your right. Keep moving, taking out any guards you encounter. Look for a small opening in the wall to your right. Follow this passage until you reach the entrance of a tunnel. Clear out any guards here, then head right and down into a cave. It's dark in here, so equip your night vision. Go into the right side of the cave. You'll eventually be attacked by some guards – one of them is your target, the Presidential Clone. Take it out to complete the second objective.
- 3
Locate and rescue the President: Okay, time for the final part. Exit the cave and turn to face it again. This time, take the left path. Follow the left-most route until you emerge back on the surface and don't need your night vision anymore. Turn them off. Outside, you'll see some flying robots – shoot them down. Exit the cave, go right, and you should see Trent and the President. You need to shoot Trent to make him run off. After that, find your way out into the main field. Look for the bright sun to guide you. Once you're in the open field, protect the President and search the middle for Elvis's spaceship. Getting to the spaceship completes the mission.
- Headshots are your best friend for conserving ammo against the guards.
- Don't forget to switch off your night vision when you get back to the surface, or you'll be at a disadvantage.
- Keep an eye on the President once you're in the open field; he's your priority.
