In The Lullaby of Life, experience points are crucial for character progression. You'll earn five types of experience: Red (Strength), Blue (Agility), Yellow (Spirit), Green (Technique), and Purple (Charm). These can be used to directly improve your base stats or learn new skills. Experience is gained through combat, eating, minigames, earning Awards, and completing Substories.
Base Stats
Your five base stats start at 100 and can be increased by spending experience. Each increase typically raises a stat by 2, with the experience cost increasing linearly. The formula for experience required is (x*y/2)+x, where 'x' is the initial requirement and 'y' is the number of increases already applied.
- Health: Increases maximum health. Requires Red XP (x1) and Yellow XP (x5).
- Attack: Increases attack damage. Requires Red XP (x6).
- Defense: Decreases damage taken. Requires Yellow XP (x3) and Green XP (x3).
- Evasion: Improves quickstep speed. Requires Blue XP (x6).
- Heat Gauge: Improves Heat gain rate. Requires Green XP (x4) and Purple XP (x2).
Reaching 200 in all stats triggers a "Limit Break," allowing further increases up to 300. Post-Limit Break, each increase costs an additional 30 Purple XP but no longer increments in cost.
Battle Skills
Battle Skills offer significant combat advantages and are purchased with experience points. They function similarly to the "Soul" and "Tech" routes in previous games.
