Learn about the battle system in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore! Discover skills, sessions, special performances, and how to use tactics and change party members effectively.
This section covers the various options and mechanics available during battles in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore.
Options during battle
During combat, you have several commands:
- Attack: Use your equipped weapon. This action does not trigger a Session.
- Skills: Utilize a skill learned from your mirage.
- Items: Use an item from your inventory.
- Guard: Take a defensive stance, reducing incoming damage and slightly healing EP (Enthusiasm Points).
- Change: Swap a party member currently fighting with one from the sub-cast. This is useful when you cannot exploit an enemy's weakness or when a character's health is critically low.
- Tactics: Issue orders to your allies on how they should act in battle.
- Escape: Attempt to flee from the battle.
Tactics
The Tactics menu allows you to set how Itsuki's allies will behave. If a tactic other than direct command is chosen, the character will act according to the assigned tactic. You can set a tactic by pressing A and cancel it by pressing B. Note that set tactics are ignored during auto-battle and cannot be changed until Itsuki's next turn.
Types of Skills
Skills are categorized by type, often indicated by an icon:
- Sword
- Lance
- Axe
- Bow
- Fire
- Ice
- Electric
- Force
- Mind*
- Body*
- Almighty
*The game sometimes refers to these as 'body' and 'mind'. To differentiate, one is named 'Mind' and the other 'Body' due to similar icons representing different skill types.
Sessions
When an enemy's weakness is exploited with a skill, an ally with a corresponding Session skill will perform a follow-up attack, known as a Session. Sessions deal more damage than normal attacks, making it crucial to target enemy weaknesses and chain multiple Sessions together.
For example, the 'elec-lunge' Session skill can trigger off an Electric-affinity skill, allowing Itsuki's 'zio' skill to initiate a Session.
Overkill
An Overkill occurs when an enemy's HP is reduced to 0 during a Session. Any remaining attacks in that Session will then ignore enemy resistances, nullifications, repels, or drains.
Special Performances
Special Performances consume SP (Special Points) from the gauge in the upper right of the screen. They can trigger Sessions regardless of enemy affinities and often possess powerful effects. The SP gauge fills by performing actions or connecting Sessions during battle.
Stage Rank
A cast member's Stage Rank reflects their entertainer status and increases with combat participation, especially through longer Session chains. Higher Stage Ranks can unlock new performas and grant increased power.
Ad-lib Performance
Ad-lib Performances can activate randomly when a character uses a learned skill. When activated, the skill transforms into a greatly enhanced performance.
Duo Arts
Duo Arts are powerful skills that can activate during Sessions. If a long Session occurs, character portraits may appear on the screen. Pressing L or R at this time can activate a Duo Art. During Duo Arts, enemy elemental resistances are ignored, potentially allowing for longer Session chains depending on the Duo Art's elements.
