The First Fire

After the terrifying ordeal in the cave, Lara finds herself alone and injured. Your immediate goal is to find shelter and warmth.

1. Gather Supplies: As you regain control, look around the immediate area. You'll spot several bundles of Salvage (glowing white) and Wood (small, broken branches). Collect everything you can find. These are crucial for upgrading your gear later.
2. Locate the Camp: Follow the faint path forward. You'll soon come across a small, dilapidated shelter. This is your first Base Camp.
3. Start a Fire: Interact with the fire pit in the center of the camp. This will trigger a brief cutscene and allow Lara to rest, saving your progress.
4. Upgrade Opportunity: At the Base Camp, access the "Gear" menu. If you've collected enough Salvage, you can perform your first weapon upgrade. Prioritize upgrading your Pry Axe to "Reinforced Axe" for increased efficiency in breaking open containers and opening new paths.

Hunting for Survival

Warmth is not enough; Lara needs sustenance. This segment introduces you to the basic hunting mechanics.

1. Explore the Forest: Head out from the Base Camp into the surrounding forest. Keep your eyes peeled for movement.
2. Spotting Prey: You'll likely encounter a deer. Use Survival Instincts (press the designated button, typically L1/LB) to highlight animals and important interactable objects. The deer will appear with a faint glow.
3. Stealth Approach: Crouch and move slowly towards the deer. Getting too close too quickly will scare it off.
4. The First Kill: Aim for the deer's head for a quick, clean kill. Your initial weapon, the Makeshift Bow, is effective at close to medium range. A successful hunt will yield Food.
5. Return to Camp: Bring the Food back to the Base Camp. This will trigger another short scene and progress the story.

The Wolf's Den

Your hunt has attracted unwanted attention. Prepare for your first real combat encounter.

1. Warning Signs: As you venture out again, you'll hear growling and see paw prints. Be on high alert.
2. First Encounter: A lone wolf will ambush you. This is a quick-time event (QTE). Follow the on-screen prompts precisely to fend off the attack. Failure will result in Lara's death.
3. The Den: After the QTE, you'll find yourself near the wolf's den. Expect more wolves.
4. Combat Strategy:
   • Use Cover: Utilize the environment to your advantage. Hide behind rocks and trees to avoid being flanked.
   • Headshots are Key: Aim for headshots with your Makeshift Bow to conserve arrows and take down enemies quickly.
   • Dodge and Counter: If a wolf gets too close, be prepared to dodge (circle/B button) and follow up with a melee attack (triangle/Y button) or a quick shot.
   • Scavenge Arrows: After each encounter, remember to pick up any arrows stuck in the environment or the fallen wolves.
5. Clearing the Den: Continue through the den, eliminating all hostile wolves. There are usually 3-4 in total.
6. Loot the Den: Once the area is clear, search the den for valuable Salvage and potentially some Relics or Documents. These often provide lore and XP.

With the wolf threat neutralized, Lara can continue her journey, a little more hardened and ready for the challenges ahead.
