Yoshi's Crafted World offers a delightful array of game modes designed to cater to both casual players and completionists. Understanding these modes is crucial for maximizing your enjoyment and ensuring you don't miss any of the game's charming secrets.

Story Mode (Front Side)

This is the primary way to experience Yoshi's Crafted World. You'll journey through beautifully crafted stages, collecting Smiley Flowers, Red Coins, and finding Poochy Pups. Each stage has specific objectives to achieve 100% completion.

• Objective: Reach the goal at the end of the stage.
• Collectibles:
  • Smiley Flowers: Essential for unlocking new worlds and stages. There are typically 3-5 per stage, often hidden in plain sight, behind objects, or awarded for defeating specific enemies.
  • Red Coins: 20 Red Coins are scattered throughout each stage. Collecting all 20 is necessary for a perfect score. They are often disguised as regular coins, so pay close attention to their color!
  • Poochy Pups: Three mischievous Poochy Pups are hidden in each stage. Finding all three is another requirement for 100% completion. They often require you to explore off the main path or interact with background elements.
  • Full Health: Finishing a stage with all 20 hearts intact also contributes to your completion score. Utilize your eggs strategically to clear paths and defeat enemies from a distance.
• Strategy:
  1. First Pass: Focus on simply reaching the goal and enjoying the level design. Don't stress too much about collectibles on your initial run.
  2. Second Pass (Collectibles): Replay the stage specifically to hunt for Smiley Flowers, Red Coins, and Poochy Pups. Use your ground pound to reveal hidden items and throw eggs at suspicious-looking objects or areas.
  3. Costume Advantage: Equip costumes earned from the Gashapon machines. These provide extra hits before taking damage, making it easier to maintain full health.

Flip-Side Mode (Back Side)

Once you complete a stage in Story Mode, its "Flip-Side" version becomes available. These stages are played in reverse, with the camera flipped to reveal the cardboard-and-crafts construction from behind. The primary goal here is to find three hidden Poochy Pups within a strict time limit.

• Objective: Find all three Poochy Pups before the timer runs out.
• Poochy Pups: Unlike the front side, these Pups are often more challenging to locate, requiring quick reflexes and keen observation. They might be behind cutouts, under platforms, or require specific actions to reveal.
• Time Limit: Each Flip-Side stage has a unique timer. Successfully finding all three Poochy Pups within the time limit awards a special Smiley Flower.
• Strategy:
  1. Memorize the Route: Since you're traveling in reverse, familiarizing yourself with the stage layout from the front side can give you an advantage.
  2. Listen Carefully: Poochy Pups often bark when you are near, providing an audio cue to their location.
  3. Egg Targeting: Don't hesitate to throw eggs at anything that looks suspicious or out of place. Many Pups are hidden behind destructible elements.
  4. Prioritize Speed: While exploration is key, move efficiently. Don't get sidetracked by enemies unless they are blocking your path to a Pup.

Mellow Mode

For players seeking a more relaxed experience, Mellow Mode is an excellent option. This mode significantly reduces the difficulty, allowing you to enjoy the game's charming aesthetics and creative level design without the pressure of challenging platforming or enemy encounters.

• Key Features:
  • Wings: Yoshi gains a pair of wings, allowing for infinite flutter jumps. This makes traversing gaps and reaching high places much easier.
  • Reduced Damage: Enemies deal less damage, and you start with more hearts.
  • Easier Collectibles: While collectibles are still in the same locations, the added mobility of the wings can make reaching them less challenging.
• How to Access: Mellow Mode can be toggled on or off at any time from the pause menu within a stage or from the world map.
• Benefit: Perfect for younger players, those new to platformers, or anyone who simply wants to unwind and appreciate the game's artistry.

Co-op Mode

Yoshi's Crafted World supports two-player local co-op, allowing you and a friend to team up and tackle stages together. This adds a new layer of strategy and fun to the gameplay.

• Gameplay: Both players control a Yoshi, with the ability to ride on each other's backs (one Yoshi carries the other).
• Shared Resources: Both Yoshis share the same egg count and health bar.
• Unique Interactions:
  • Riding: The Yoshi on top can throw eggs while the bottom Yoshi moves, allowing for coordinated attacks or reaching distant targets.
  • Ground Pound Synergy: Two Yoshis ground pounding simultaneously can trigger larger effects or reveal more items.
