It all comes down to gathering the right materials and making sure your crafting skills are top-notch.

First things first, you'll want to head over to the Stone Safety Na’vi Camp in the Mother of Rivers area of the Upper Plains. There's a Community Basket there that'll hook you up with the recipe for Navao’s Mushroom Pie. This pie is a game-changer because it gives you a 'Perfect Gathering' bonus. Also, if you can get your hands on Cloud Spitter Seeds and use them in a recipe, you'll get the 'Nimble Gather II' buff. This boosts the stats of any material you gather by a solid 15%! If you're feeling really ambitious and can find Pale Fire Seeds (they're a pain to get, by the way), you can craft a recipe for 'Nimble Gatherer III', which gives you a massive 20% boost.

On top of that, you absolutely need to max out the Maker skill tree. The 'Apex Skill' you get from it is incredibly good – basically, anything you craft will be way more powerful. To unlock it, you'll need to craft an Energizing Longbow. For that, you'll need Exquisite versions of a Dawnsheen Branch, a Shaded Waterweed Bast, and a Hammerhead Horn, with one of each coming from the main regions. The Longbow is your trusty sidearm right from the start, and honestly, it stays useful for the whole game. The absolute best Longbow you can get your hands on is the So’lek’s Furtive Longbow. You can snag the design for it from So’lek himself over at the Resistance HQ in the Clouded Forest. What makes this one so great is that you can use pretty much any of the designated materials to craft it. Unlike other Exquisite-tier longbows that force you into using specific, rare items, this one gives you flexibility. Plus, it comes with Grenade Arrows, which are fantastic for taking down those pesky RDA mechs.

Best Heavy Bow in Avatar

For Heavy Bows, you've got a couple of excellent choices. First up is the So’lek’s Survivor Heavy Bow. Just like the Longbow, you can grab its design from So’lek at the Resistance HQ in the Clouded Forest. This one's passive ability is pretty sweet – it restores 10% of your health after you take down an enemy. Super handy if you're in the middle of a big firefight or getting swarmed by wildlife. It also uses broad crafting materials, so you can make it as powerful as you want.

Your second top-tier Heavy Bow option is the Black Wind Heavy Bow. You'll get its design during The Black Wind side quest in the Upper Plains – you don't even need to finish the whole quest, just get the design during it. This bow features Flame Arrows for special ammo, and its passive ability boosts your damage against targets that have a status effect (fire counts!). It might end up being slightly weaker than the other Heavy Bow, but it's still a fantastic weapon that doesn't lock you into specific materials.

The So’lek’s Merciless Shortbow is probably the easier one to get, as it's also available from So’lek at the Resistance HQ in the Clouded Forest. This bow can fire Storm Arrows, which are brilliant against RDA mechs. Its passive increases your movement speed after hitting a weakspot, which is great for staying mobile. You can use any of the designated materials to craft it.

The other excellent Shortbow is the Survivor Shortbow. You'll earn this one by fully completing the Kame’tire Community Contributions quests (all three parts, mind you). After that, head back to The Hollows and speak with Zamhil. This Shortbow uses Poisoned Arrows for its special ammo and has the same awesome passive as the Survivor Heavy Bow: it restores 10% of your health after killing an enemy. This is a fantastic passive, and it uses pretty much the same materials as the other Shortbow, though you will specifically need Cloud Pine Resin for this one, instead of just any old resin.

You can get the design for this beauty from So’lek once you reach the Resistance HQ in the Clouded Forest. This is one of only two Exquisite designs you can get for Spear-Throwers, but the other one requires a very specific Bone from the Upper Plains, making it potentially weaker. The Fearless Warrior's passive is also top-notch: it gives you +40% ranged resistance for a short time after you kill an enemy. This is incredibly useful, especially if you're using the Spear-Thrower while engaging RDA mechs.

Best Shotgun in Avatar

Now, if you're looking to absolutely blast your way through Pandora without a care in the world, a Shotgun is the way to go. There are two really strong Shotgun options. The first is the Gravedigger Shotgun. This one packs the highest damage punch of the two, but its passive abilities aren't quite as good as the other option. You can find this shotgun at the Stone Processor Alpha RDA Outpost, located on the eastern side of the Shattered Bridge area in the Upper Plains. You'll need to clear the outpost completely, and then you can find it in a locked chest in the rewards room – make sure you have SID ready to open it!
