Defusing the Bomb (CT Side)

As a Counter-Terrorist (CT), your primary objective when the bomb has been planted is to defuse it before it detonates. This requires a combination of swift action, tactical awareness, and often, teamwork. The bomb timer is typically 45 seconds, so every second counts.

Preparation for the Defuse

• Bomb Defusal Kit (Defuse Kit): This is your most crucial item. Purchasing a Defuse Kit at the start of a round reduces the defusal time from 10 seconds to 5 seconds. This is an invaluable advantage and should be a priority purchase for at least one, if not multiple, CTs on your team if finances allow.
• Utility: Before approaching the bomb site, consider using your utility to clear angles or create cover:
  • Smoke Grenades: Essential for blocking enemy lines of sight to the planted bomb, allowing you to defuse in relative safety.
  • Flashbangs: Can blind any Terrorists (Ts) guarding the bomb, giving you a window to initiate the defuse or clear the area.
  • High Explosive Grenades (HE Grenades): Can be used to clear common hiding spots or to deal damage to Ts holding angles.

Approaching the Bomb Site

Never rush directly onto a planted bomb without checking for enemy presence. Ts will almost always have players guarding the bomb from various angles.

1. Information Gathering: Listen for enemy footsteps, gunshots, and callouts from teammates. Use your radar to locate remaining Ts.
2. Clearing Angles: Methodically clear common angles and hiding spots around the bomb site. Peek corners carefully, pre-aiming at head height.
3. Team Coordination: If multiple CTs are alive, communicate your plan. One player can throw smokes while another pushes an angle, or one can provide cover fire while another attempts the defuse.

The Defusal Process

Once you've located the bomb and assessed the immediate threat, it's time to act.

• Prioritize Safety: If you have a Defuse Kit, you have a 5-second window. If you don't, it's 10 seconds. Do not start defusing if you are exposed to multiple angles or actively being shot at.
• Using Smokes for Cover:
  1. Throw a smoke grenade directly onto the bomb or in a way that blocks the most dangerous enemy sightlines.
  2. Wait for the smoke to fully bloom before entering it.
  3. Enter the smoke, crouch, and begin defusing. While inside the smoke, you are generally safe from direct fire, but Ts might still try to spam through it or push into it.
• The "Fake Defuse": This advanced tactic involves tapping the defuse key (default 'E') for a brief moment, then immediately letting go. This creates the distinct defusal sound, which can bait an enemy T into peeking their position, allowing you to get a kill. This is particularly effective when you suspect an enemy is holding a tight angle on the bomb.
• The "Tap Defuse": Similar to a fake defuse, but with the intention of actually defusing. If you have a Defuse Kit and only need a quick tap to finish the defuse (e.g., 1-2 seconds remaining), you can tap the defuse key and immediately look for enemies. This is a high-risk, high-reward play.
• Team Defuse: If two CTs are alive and one has a Defuse Kit, You with the kit should defuse while the other provides cover. If neither has a kit, both can provide cover, or one can attempt a fake defuse while the other watches.

Post-Defuse Considerations

• Don't Celebrate Early: Even after the bomb is defused, remaining Ts can still attempt to eliminate your team. Stay vigilant until the round officially ends.
• Secure the Area: After a successful defuse, quickly check common enemy retreat paths or remaining hiding spots to ensure no lingering threats.

Mastering the defusal process is key to winning rounds as a CT. Practice your utility throws, learn common enemy holding positions, and always prioritize the Defuse Kit!
