How to Beat the Last Boss Hive Mind in Dead Space Remake: To In

Learn how to defeat the Hive Mind, the final boss in Dead Space (Remake). This guide covers its attacks, phases, and the best strategies for victory.

Before heading into the final boss fight against the Hive Mind, make sure to visit the Save Station, Bench, and Store. It's recommended to purchase Medium Med Packs, and ample ammo for the Plasma Cutter, Contact Beam, and Force Gun. Prioritize buying Nodes for final upgrades. While the boss drops supplies, having extra ensures you're prepared. Upgrading your Plasma Cutter's Damage is highly recommended due to the precision needed for shooting growths. For your Suit, prioritize Health upgrades, with Stasis being a secondary consideration. Also, upgrade the Damage for your Contact Beam and Force Gun.

Hive Mind Phase 1 Attacks

Explosive Bulb

The Hive Mind will regurgitate explosive bulbs into the arena. These explode shortly after being spawned. While they can be shot, it's more efficient to avoid them by finding a safe spot and focusing fire on the growths around the boss's mouth. These bulbs can be destroyed by shooting them, but it's a waste of ammo. Instead, find a safe spot away from their proximity and focus on shooting the boss’s growths around its mouth.

Tentacle Slam

The boss will periodically slam its tentacles down at your last known position. Watch for the boss arching back before it attacks. To avoid this, get out of Aim Down Sight (ADS) and move laterally.

Hive Mind Phase 2 Attacks

Tentacle Barrage

Similar to the Tentacle Slam, the Hive Mind will repeatedly throw its tentacles at your last position. Keep moving side to side to evade these attacks. Later in this phase, the boss will use its Acid Stream attack to restrict the arena space.

Acid Stream

The Hive Mind will vomit a persistent stream of Acid across the battlefield. Initially, it will fire straight down the center, dividing the arena. As more growths are destroyed, this attack evolves into Acid Barrage.

Acid Barrage

As more growths are destroyed, the Hive Mind becomes more erratic, unleashing barrages of Acid Streams. This is often combined with Tentacle Barrage, making maneuverability difficult in confined spaces. To avoid the initial barrage, stay mobile and move to the sides of the arena. If caught in an acid stream, it's often better to walk through it to reach a larger safe area, as the damage taken is minimal.

Hive Mind Strategy

Phase 1

The battle consists of two phases. Phase 1 requires you to destroy the five growths around the Hive Mind's mouth. The boss's erratic head movements make hitting these growths challenging. The best approach is to wait for the Explosive Bulb attack, move to a safe corner, and shoot the growths while strafing to avoid tentacles and nullify the bulbs. After destroying all mouth growths, the phase changes.

Phase Change

During the phase change, the boss will spawn several Necromorphs. Use the Force Gun's alt-fire to group them, then hit them with charged Contact Beam shots.
