Discover how to effectively play the Mystic Knight in Dragon's Dogma 2, focusing on Magick Cannon and counter-attacks for powerful offense.

Alright, let's talk about the Mystic Knight in Dragon's Dogma 2. On paper, it sounds like a mix of Fighter and Mage, right? They can block, wear heavy armor, and swing swords, plus they get skills like Burst Strike. But here's the real kicker for taking down anything big – or even just a horde of smaller enemies: Magick Cannon, or its bigger brother, Great Cannon. You can actually set up two of these, then smack them to unleash a 'spellshot' at your enemies. You can't aim it perfectly, but if you've got an offensive-minded Mystic Knight, this attack can absolutely melt groups of foes. And get this – if you enchant your weapon with an element *before* you activate the cannon, that element transfers to the spellshot! Pretty neat, huh?

Beyond the cannon and those Fighter-like skills, the Mystic Knight also thrives on counter-attacks. Now, I'll be honest, I find waiting around for enemies to attack pretty tedious myself. I'm more of a 'charge in' kind of player. But, if that's your jam, these counters can be effective. They can even ditch the sword or mace for a Staff, using elemental attacks like Comestion. Personally, I think that's a bit of a waste when you have the cannon, but hey, you do you. Their Magick Shield enchantments are actually stronger than the standard staff ones, and honestly, nothing else they do really compares to the sheer power of the cannon.

When it comes to their Augments, you'll find a lot focused on counters and blocking. There are a few that boost your Pawns, and Fortitude, which I feel should honestly belong to the Fighter class since it just reduces physical damage taken. All in all, this class can feel a bit clunky, and I'm not sure I see the massive appeal for everyone. I tend to prefer faster, more chaotic combat, but the Mystic Knight really only shines when you're using that Magick Cannon. Setting it up involves casting one or two cannons, maybe casting an enchantment, and then keeping enemies off you while it does its thing. You might even place a Ruinous Sigil. It's a lot of casting and field setup, and yeah, I find it a bit slow.

Compared to classes like the Ranger, Assassin, or Magick Archer, it just feels like a clunkier, more delayed way to achieve what they can do more easily by just holding down a bumper and spamming archery skills. Overall, it might not be the best for leveling up quickly, but it can be a really fun class to play if you plan it out. You really need to think ahead if you want your Mystic Knight to be effective, which might mean playing another class for a good chunk of the game first. That's just how it goes sometimes!

It does require a slower, more deliberate approach to combat than many other vocations. However, unlike pure spellcasters, you're much less vulnerable while you're setting up your powerful attacks. It's a trade-off, for sure.

Assassin — a Hybrid Vocation that uses Swords and Daggers primarily, with Shields and Bows as secondary weapons.
