Blood in the Snow: In Puzzle Guide

Navigate the Blood in the Snow quest in Ghost of Tsushima with our comprehensive puzzle guide. Learn how to solve the Fox Shrine, Fox Door, Cipher Escape, and Fox Statue Turning puzzles.

Walkthrough:

1. Find Intel at the Red Crane Inn: Enter the Red Crane Inn and eavesdrop on two Matsumae soldiers at a gambling table. Pay 1,000 mon to play a match with them and win to get them to reveal their commander's location. Go upstairs to the indicated room for a scene, then return downstairs for another scene and a fistfight. After the fight, a musician named Oyuki will offer assistance.
2. Find the Nine Tails at the Shrine: Exit the inn and follow Oyuki to a shrine to the west. Pay her 200 mon. Follow her uphill to a scene, then follow the Nine Tails until they split. Follow the left-most Nine Tail, which will lead you into an ambush. Defeat the assailants to trigger another scene.
3. Fox Shrine Puzzle: Head southeast to a shrine in a cliff face. Pick up a torch from a brazier and light the two stone lanterns that have a fox figure on top. This will open a passage under the shrine.
4. Fox Door Puzzle: Navigate through the hideout, including a balance beam, wall climb, and grappling across a gap. Defeat two waves of Nine Tails. Find the sealed gate with two fox statues on pedestals and two empty pedestals. Locate the first fox statue near a tree by a fire (following the cliff clockwise from the gate) and place it on the right pedestal. Locate the second fox statue near a bush (following the cliff counter-clockwise from the gate) and place it on the left pedestal.
5. Cipher Escape Puzzle: Proceed through the now-open gate. Climb cliffs, cross gaps using chains and branches, and jump across wooden platforms. Find a building and enter it. Examine a scroll inside, fend off an ambush of Nine Tails, and examine the scroll they were guarding to learn the symbols and their meanings. Examine the fox statue with the upside-down trident symbol near the doors to open them. Do not touch statues marked with the three-line gravestone symbol.
6. Fox Statue Turning Puzzle: Exit the building and defeat two more waves of Nine Tails. Return to the row of fox statues with ciphers. Rotate the statues as follows, from left to right:
   • Leftmost Fox Statue: Rotate until the fox faces right.
   • Center-Left Fox Statue: This statue should remain facing forward (away from the lantern-bearing statue).
   • Center-Right Fox Statue: Rotate until the fox faces the lantern-bearing statue.
   • Rightmost Fox Statue: Rotate until the fox faces left.
