Almost all equipment, from weapons to armor, will have one or more gem slots. These slots are color-coded, indicating the type of gem that can be socketed into them: Red for offensive gems, Blue for defensive gems, and Green for utility gems. Some rare items may feature multi-colored slots, allowing for a wider range of gem combinations.

To socket a gem, you first need to acquire both the gem and an item with an available slot. Gems are found throughout the world, dropped by enemies, found in chests, or purchased from merchants like Silas the Jeweler in the bustling city of Oakhaven. Common gems include the Ruby of Strength (adds +5 Strength), the Sapphire of Resilience (adds +5 Constitution), and the Emerald of Agility (adds +5 Dexterity). Higher-tier gems, such as the Greater Ruby of Strength, offer significantly larger stat bonuses.

The process of socketing is straightforward. Open your inventory, select the item you wish to enhance, and right-click on the desired gem. If the gem is compatible with the slot, a prompt will appear allowing you to socket it. Once a gem is socketed, it cannot be removed without using a special item called a Gem Extractor, which can be purchased from Silas for 500 gold. Be mindful of this, as attempting to socket a new gem into an already occupied slot will destroy the existing gem.

A strategic approach to gem socketing involves understanding your party's roles and the challenges you face. Common mistakes include filling all slots with offensive gems, neglecting defensive or utility bonuses, or using low-tier gems on high-level equipment. For instance, a single slot on a weapon might be better used for a Garnet of Intellect if your spellcaster relies on that stat for their most powerful spells, rather than a minor offensive gem.
