Substory 12 Guide: Saved By Kindness

Start the Substory on Makani Avenue in Hawaii. You will meet Sawai, who has lost his phone and cannot find his hotel. Ichiban offers to help him find the “Beachside” Hotel.

Ask around for the hotel. A hula dancer mentions a “Seaside Hotel,” which jogs Sawai’s memory. She mentions her group needs donations, and Sawai gives one. The dancer agrees to walk him to the hotel.

Move away from Makani Avenue until a blue Substory marker appears on your map, indicating the next part of the quest is ready. This marker will be near Mama Masala’s restaurant.

Return to the marker. On the way, you will be stopped by a policeman, a T-shirt salesperson, and a parrot, all asking for money. You will overhear the parrot outside the restaurant.

Inside Mama Masala’s, Sawai mentions he met his “special someone” because of Ichiban’s help. Choose The lei girl? to gain +20 Kindness points. After Sawai shares some backstory, the current part concludes.

Move away from the area again until a new blue Substory marker appears.

Approach the marker to see Sawai and the lei girl. Ichiban overhears bystanders discussing that the girl is a swindler. Approach Sawai and choose to tell him the truth. He reveals he knows he is being scammed but is happy to give Kiana (the woman) money.

Move away from the area again to trigger the next part of the Substory.

You will see a scene with Kiana and Sawai, where he gives her an umbrella. Move away again, and Kiana will run off after Sawai attempts to give her more money.

The next part of the quest is located in the parking lot behind the Trolley Stop. Approach the group of people to learn Kiana is being forced to scam tourists, including Sawai.

Sawai intervenes and is attacked. You will then need to fight four Level 8 enemies.

After defeating the enemies, you will learn Kiana’s reasons for her actions.
