Walkthrough
  1. 1
Movement: Use the Left Stick on controllers or the designated movement keys on PC to move your character.
  2. 2
Pause Menu: Access the pause menu (which includes the Introspection Menu) by pressing the designated pause button on your controller or keyboard.
  3. 3
Main Action: When facing a highlighted object, press any other button (besides pause or movement) to Inspect it. When not facing any objects, this button triggers Introspection. When in a menu, it confirms selections.

The Introspection Menu:

The Introspection Menu is divided into two halves:

  • Status (Left Half):
    • Truth Recovered: Tracks your percentage progress in solving the game's mysteries. 100% is not required to finish the story.
    • Current Location: Displays where your character is standing.
    • Stress Level: An indicator if you are being chased; it has no other effect on gameplay.
    • Temperature: Indicates the current temperature, affected by indoor/outdoor locations and wearing a jacket. It has no known effect on gameplay.
    • Caffeine Influence: Fills when you drink espresso, granting approximately five minutes of the ability to run before draining.
    • Bladder: Fills when you drink espresso. A full bladder may increase stress, potentially leading to more frequent appearances of certain chasing enemies. You can empty it at the Water Closet in the Cellar.
    • Economy: Shows the current amount of cash your character possesses, in American dollars.
  • Menu Options (Right Half):
    • Photographic Memory: Acts as your "Files" menu, storing important information categorized for later review.
    • Current Possessions: Your character's inventory. Examining items here provides lore and potential usage hints.
    • Mental Notes: Your "Tasks" menu, showing a chronological list of objectives that are struck off upon completion. Reviewing this is recommended later in the game.
    • Personal History: A record of completed actions, less useful than other sections.
    • Byte Seyes: Stores the Byte Seyes portable device once acquired. It includes a calculator function and allows loading purchased games.
Tips
  • The game's controls are designed to be very simple, often relying on a single main action button.
  • Pay attention to the Mental Notes section as you progress to keep track of remaining tasks.
  • The Economy section displays your cash in American dollars.
  • The Byte Seyes can be used for calculations and playing purchased games.
