Learn how to manipulate player potential and ratings in Madden NFL 25 using franchise mode and position changes.

A player's potential in Madden NFL 25 determines their overall rating cap:

• A: Overall cap of 90 - 99
• B: Overall cap of 80 - 89
• C: Overall cap of 70 - 79
• D: Overall cap of 60 - 69
• F: Overall cap of 59 - 12

To observe potential, start an offline franchise, navigate to "Player Management", and use the Left Trigger (LT) to go to "All NFL" and the Right Trigger (RT) to go to "WR". Sorting by overall rating with default rosters, the top five players are Andre Johnson (98 OVR), Larry Fitzgerald (97 OVR), Brandon Marshall (96 OVR), Reggie Wayne (96 OVR), and Randy Moss (95 OVR). These players are likely near their potential limit.

Sorting by potential (POT) will shuffle the list. Calvin Johnson Jr. will jump up, indicating a higher overall cap (potentially up to 99 OVR), while Reggie Wayne may drop, and players like Desean Jackson and Dez Bryant may move up, suggesting they have an overall cap of at least 96 OVR.

Examining the top five "B" potential players reveals Hines Ward (89 OVR) and Donald Driver (89 OVR) have hit their caps. Mardy Gilyard (70 OVR) is likely to reach 89 OVR. Mike Wallace (78 OVR) and Demaryius Thomas (74 OVR) could also reach 89 OVR, though they might cap at 88 OVR.

Looking at the bottom five "A" potential players, such as Brandon Tate (68 OVR), Braylon Edwards (85 OVR), Jeremy Maclin (81 OVR), Arrelious Benn (73 OVR), and Dwayne Bowe (84 OVR), they can reach 90 overall, but Dwayne Bowe may not exceed 91 overall.

This method can be applied to any position to estimate future overall ratings.

Method #1: Changing a player's rating to increase their overall beyond their potential

This method is performed in an offline franchise.

1. Select a player you wish to manipulate. For example, Lawrence Timmons (Steelers MLB), who has an overall cap around 92.
2. Navigate to "Player Management" and find Timmons at his current position (MLB).
3. Select Timmons, press the "A" button, choose "Edit Player", and press "A" again.
4. On the "Player Info" page, move to "Position" and change it to a different position, such as Left End (LE) or Right End (RE).
5. Press Start and choose "Keep player without saving".
6. The player's overall rating will jump up, potentially to 99.
7. Find the player at their new position (e.g., LE or RE).
8. Follow the same steps to edit the player and change their position back to their original position (e.g., MLB).
9. Return to "Player Management", navigate to the original position (MLB), and sort by potential again. The player should now be at the top of the list, with a significantly increased overall rating and potential.
