Mario Kart Wii Nintendo WFC offers Worldwide, Continental, and Friends matchmaking for VS Race and Battle modes. Learn how to connect.

The Nintendo WFC (Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection) service in Mario Kart Wii provides three connection options: Worldwide, Continental, and Friends. Worldwide and Continental modes pit you against players of a similar rank, either globally or within your continent, respectively. To connect with Friends, they must be online and actively searching for you.

After selecting your connection type, choose between VS Race or Battle mode. You will be matched with players of a similar rank. Select your character and drift type, and you will be connected and see who you are racing against on the map (minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen)). You will be added to a race, but you might need to wait for a previous race to finish before yours begins; you can watch the ongoing race while you wait. Choose a track or opt for a random selection, and the game will then select a random track for the race.

Once a race concludes, you have the option to continue with the same group of players or quit and find a new group. You are not obligated to complete a set number of races with the same opponents; you can join and leave groups freely. The system is designed for a smooth experience with minimal lag (latency).

You can also enjoy split-screen play with another person. While they can use their own Mii (a personalized avatar), they will not earn ranking points if they are playing as a Guest.

Tips
  • Use the map (minimap) to see your opponents' positions during the race.
  • Be aware that you might have to wait for a race to finish before starting your own.
  • You can drop in and out of online lobbies without commitment.
  • Split-screen players will not receive ranking points if they are designated as a Guest.
