Discover secrets in Max Payne 2 Part 37, including the Kaufman cutscene trigger, piano theme, and Miller/Broussard reference.
Walkthrough
- 1After defeating Kaufman and all the cleaners, retrace your steps to the previous apartment. Use the wide-screen television on the wall to trigger a 2D cut-scene that pays tribute to the original Grand Theft Auto games. This scene will only appear if all enemies are dead.
- 2After the beginning (cutscene) ends, exit the lift and go left. Take the first passage on the left leading to a door. Interacting with this door will play a moaning sound effect, which is later used in Part 3 Chapter 3 of the TV Late Night Movie Max Heat 7.
- 3Shooting the security cameras (part of the Heads-Up Display or HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap)) scattered throughout the building's corridors will cause Mona to make random remarks such as "Max! stop it!", "Max, I can't help you if I can't see what's going on.", or "Max! those cameras are my eyes, we need them to make this work."
- 4Similar to Max Payne 1, you can play the game's theme on instruments. In this level, you can play the piano that two cleaners are using. Ensure the lid does not fall off, or Max Payne won't be able to play it. The first time you play it, the theme will be at normal speed; the second time, it will be faster.
- 5The theme song "Late Goodbye" by "Poets of the Fall" can be heard throughout the game. In this level, the cleaners play the tune on the piano, and after they finish, one of them whistles the song's tune.
Part II: A Binary Choice - Prologue
- After reaching your desk and the (cutscene), talk to an officer to learn about Detective Winterson's blind child. Near her desk, on a sticky board, you can find a "The Brooklyn School for the Blind" Certificate, similar to one found in Vladimir Lem's room.
- Listen to a humorous interrogation near Jim Bravura's cabin, which an officer dubs "Crime of the Century." Later, in the interior prisoner cells (second door on the other side of the partition), you can overhear another funny conversation between two cell-mates, referred to as the "How ****ed up is that???" story.
- In the station's garage, two police officers, "Miller" and "Broussard," are arguing. Miller stresses "positioning," while Broussard says, "It'll be done When It's Done." This is a reference to 3D Realms' Scott Miller and George Broussard, regarding the delayed game Duke Nukem Forever. Officer Miller also corrects Officer Broussard's name spelling, referencing George Broussard's misspelling of his name in Pharaoh's Tomb.
- In the lobby, attempting to enter an occupied toilet stall will prompt the occupant to say, "For crying out loud! Is it too much to ask for some privacy? I'll be out when it's done."
Tips
- Ensure all enemies are eliminated before returning to the apartment to trigger the Kaufman cut-scene.
- Be careful not to let the piano lid fall off when attempting to play the theme.
- The references to Duke Nukem Forever and other details add to the game's atmosphere and lore.
