Despite claiming he was simply doing his job, Stryker was hailed as a hero for saving Earth from invasion in Mortal Kombat 9. He was honored with both the key to the city and the Congressional Medal of Freedom. The press and paparazzi closely followed his every move. His biography remained on the best-seller lists for a full year, and Stryker action figures were extremely popular, selling out quickly.

However, when Hollywood approached Stryker for the rights to his life story, he refused. He was adamant that he would never allow himself to be portrayed by Johnny Cage.
