Old Smoky

Learn how to defeat Moltan, the Lord of Lava, in Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Get tips and strategies for this challenging boss fight.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Weak to Water and Ice attacks.
• Resistant to Fire and Earth attacks.

Phases:

1. Phase 1: Initial Assault
   Moltan starts by using powerful fire-based attacks. He'll summon lava geysers and shoot fireballs. Focus on dodging and using your Water or Ice familiars to chip away at his health.
2. Phase 2: Enraged State
   Once his health drops to about 50%, Moltan will become enraged. His attacks will become faster and more frequent. He might also start using a powerful area-of-effect (AoE) attack that covers a large portion of the arena. Keep moving and be ready to use defensive abilities.
3. Phase 3: Desperation
   In his final phase, Moltan will be visibly weakened but will unleash his most devastating attacks. He might summon smaller lava elementals to assist him. Prioritize taking out the adds while still avoiding Moltan's main attacks.

Strategy:

• Familiar Choice: Bring familiars with Water or Ice abilities. Having a familiar that can heal or buff your party is also crucial.
• Dodging is Key: Moltan's attacks are heavily telegraphed, but they hit hard. Always be ready to dodge or move out of the way of fireballs and AoE attacks.
• Exploit Weaknesses: Consistently use Water and Ice attacks to maximize your damage output. Don't waste MP on attacks he's resistant to.
• Manage MP: Keep an eye on your MP. Use items or familiars with MP-restoring abilities if you find yourself running low, especially during longer phases.
• Watch for AoE: When Moltan prepares his large AoE attack, make sure you're either far away or have a defensive ability ready.
• Deal with Adds: In the final phase, don't let the smaller lava elementals overwhelm you. Take them out quickly so you can refocus on Moltan.

After you've defeated Moltan, a portal will appear, allowing you to instantly warp to the base of Old Smoky. From there, just head back to Al Mamoon on foot.
