Your Pokémon Crystal walkthrough continues! Learn how to navigate Routes 16-18 and conquer the Fuschia City Gym to earn the Soul Badge and TM06 Toxic.
Alright, let's get that Soul Badge in Fuschia City! After you've wrapped things up in Celadon City, make sure your Pokémon are all healed up at the Pokemon Center. Then, we're heading west out of the city onto Route 16.
Route 16: This route is pretty straightforward. Just head west and hop into the gatehouse. Once you're on the other side, you'll automatically get on your Bicycle, and we'll be cruising south onto Route 17, also known as Cycling Road.
Route 17: Now, this is where the cycling gets interesting. When you enter Route 17, your Bike will mostly want to go south on its own. You *can* steer it north or to the sides, but be ready for it to pull you south if you let go of the D-Pad.
Keep an eye out east of where Route 16 and 17 meet. There's a patch of grass, and just east of that are some pillars. If you count the third column of grass, in line with the fourth pillar from the left (where the railing starts), you can find a hidden Max Ether. It's a bit tricky to grab because of the bike's automatic movement, but the screenshot should give you a good idea of the spot.
After that, head south from the grass. You'll see three white paths going downhill. They all merge eventually. The right path has one Trainer, while the left and middle paths have two each. Once you've dealt with them, you'll be coasting downhill. Towards the very bottom, the path narrows, and you'll see a wooden fence. Check the left of the two fenceposts there to find a Max Elixir. There's another Trainer nearby, and the gatehouse to Route 18 is southeast.
Route 18: On Route 18, you can finally get off your trusty Bicycle! To the east, there's a Trainer right where the fence ends, and another one chilling in the grass to the south. Other than that, not much to see here, so let's head east into Fuschia City.
Fuschia City: Fuschia City is pretty big, but for our purposes, the main things are the Pokemon Center and the Gym, both located in the southwestern part of the city. You'll need to take that narrow path between the ledge and the fence near the Route 18 exit to get there. If you need to stock up, the Poke Mart is west of the city center, past the Cut tree. And way up north from the Poke Mart, you'll find a Burnt Berry tree.
Alright, enough sightseeing, it's time to hit the Gym!
Fuschia City Gym: This Gym's puzzle is all about invisible walls, just like in the old days. You can faintly see the dots on the floor marking them, but it's way easier if you use a map. The map we linked earlier shows the wall locations clearly and will help you visualize the path.
If you want, you can take on the Trainer north of the entrance before diving into the puzzle. Otherwise, just follow the outer wall of the Gym until you reach the area where the Leader is waiting in the west-central part. Once you find her, get ready for a battle!
