Prologue Walkthrough

Guide yourself through the Sea of Stars prologue! Learn how to defeat your first enemies, climb ledges, and use skills in this beginner-friendly walkthrough.

Hey there! Welcome to Sea of Stars. The very beginning of the game is all about setting the stage, introducing you to the world and its characters. When you start a new game, you'll get to pick between two main characters. Don't sweat this choice too much – it doesn't really change the story or gameplay, and you can actually switch later on if you feel like it.

After the opening cutscenes, you'll find yourself on the Mountain Trail. Your companion will dash off to search for a campsite, leaving you to explore on your own. As soon as you try to find your own spot, you'll run into your very first enemy: a Wanderer. This is your introduction to combat, so just stick to the basic Attack command. You won't know much about the battle system yet, so just hit attack and you'll be fine.

Once you've dealt with the Wanderer, head northeast. You'll come across ledges that you'll need to climb. Just press X (PS) / A (Xbox) / B (Switch) when you're near one, and you'll hop right up. You'll be doing this a lot! Keep going across the bridge and more ledges, and don't worry about the enemies you see hopping around off to the side. After crossing the second bridge, you'll have to fight one of those enemies – a Rochevre. For this fight, use the basic attack first, and then you'll be introduced to Skills. Use the highlighted skill (Crescent Arc if you're Valere, Sunball if you're Zale) and don't overthink it.

After you've defeated the Rochevre, look for a brown object on the edge of the cliff. Interact with it to kick down a ladder. Drop down the rope ladder and head back the way you came, but this time, take the path to the left. Follow this trail, and you'll eventually reach an opening with some small ledges you'll need to shimmy across. Inside this opening, you'll encounter a Luslug. This time, you'll have access to all your attacks, but honestly, just do whatever you feel like to defeat it.

Once the Luslug is down, head through the opening to the south and then continue to the right. You'll need to jump across some gaps (use the same button as climbing ledges) and eventually, you'll reach a campfire where you'll reunite with your other party member. There will be some more dialogue, and then you'll experience a lengthy flashback that kicks off the main story.
