Learn how to defeat the Shichimen Warrior mini-boss in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. This guide covers its attacks, weaknesses, and the best strategies to reclaim the Hidden Forest Idol.
Before we get started in this area, let's do a few clean-up activities. The first thing I recommend here is going back to the Dilapidated Temple. There's someone new here, off to the right side outside. A new vendor, "Fujioka the Info Broker". If you remember we saved him back in Ashina Castle (by killing the samurai near him), so he's taken residence here. More importantly is the items he has for sale!
| Fujioka the Info Broker's Shop | |
|---|---|
| Pellet | 80 Sen |
| Dragon's Blood Droplet | 180 Sen |
| Antidote Powder | 100 Sen |
| Dousing Powder | 100 Sen |
| Pacifying Agent | 100 Sen |
| Ungo's Sugar | 120 Sen |
| Light Coin Purse | 110 Sen |
| Heavy Coin Purse | 550 Sen |
| Sabimaru Memo | 500 Sen |
| Three-story Pagoda Memo | 500 Sen |
| Gourd Seed | 2000 Sen |
Needless to say, that Gourd Seed is a MUST BUY, so go grind or do whatever you have to in order to buy it. We're going to see Emma in a bit, so get it now (I cashed in some money to get it).
Go visit the Sculptor now and put on the new tools you got. He will likely comment on the finger we found in the Guardian Ape's belly. I ended up fitting the Divine Abduction and Finger Whistle here, then doing some upgrading. I also ended up giving the Sculptor the Monkey Booze we found earlier to learn of his monkey training in the valley when he was young. Interesting stuff!
After that, I decided to go pay Lord Kuro a visit. If you talk to him, he will explain his latest findings with you and he'll give you the Page's Diary while requesting you talk to Emma. Talk to Emma now and she'll end up giving us the Immortal Severance Scrap when Sekiro inquires on behalf of Lord Kuro. After that, talk to Emma and up your healing count with that Gourd Seed you bought...
OK, after that I did something for no reason. I went and saw the Divine Child, got some more rice, and gave it to the Hag out at Senpou Temple (she's by the big tree, if you remember, right after jumping out of the house). She gives you a hint on killing the Great White Serpent, but we've already done that as you recall. I also checked to see if the Divine Child would give me MORE rice, but she didn't.
One last thing I ended up doing was going after one of the "Divine Confetti" Mini Boss enemies. I know, I know... I said earlier I didn't want to do this until Divine Confetti became available to buy, but we (you and I) have enough in back-stock that you can kill one off right now, even with dying and losing some (trust me!).
PLUS! We have a good reason to do this now. If you try to warp back to _"Ashina Depths - Hidden Forest"_ you should notice that our "Ape Den" Idol (the one right before it) is LOCKED. We can't use it until we _"commune with it"_ again. The reason, which you can see once you warp to the Hidden Forest and backtrack a little bit, is because a Mini Boss (the Schichimen Warrior) is here). I don't like this at all, so let's kill him!
Mini Boss: Shichimen Warrior
OK, this is our first time facing a _"Terror Mini Boss"_ and honestly I sucked at it. Check out my video below! Sure, I won, but I could have done a ton better (and I know it).
First let's go over the basics. Every attack this boss does inflicts Terror and fills your Terror Gauge. When that is full, you become terrified and most of your health is just gone. You also NEED Divine Confetti to do damage to this boss. Required. Got to have it! Now onto his attacks!
The Shichimen Warrior starts out staying in place and will often summon small balls of terror to roam around the arena. Not much you can do about those but not run into them. His attacks are pretty predictable after that. He often starts by shooting a stream of small terror balls at you. You can often just run to the side to avoid those.
He can also summon several larger balls (much bigger) to shoot at you. These are harder to dodge but I find that cutting under them (after running) often keeps you safe. Finally, his last terror attack involves him gathering energy above his head and releasing a BEAM of terror energy at you. The best thing you can do is DEFLECT this (which I did not do a good job of in the video). You can deflect this though to stay safe. Alternately you can outrun it to the left or right, although that is more dangerous. If you get close to the Shichimen Warrior he can also swing his staff at you (but that's hardly worth worrying about).
Now, to kill him "normally" you can simply get close and attack. This does good damage (at your level) and after 2-3 times you'll have a health bar on him. I say "2-3 times" because the Shichimen Warrior will disappear after you attack for awhile, which means he'll re-appear a distance away (you'll have to look around) and then re-engage.
Helpful Tips:
- In the video I don't think I used a single Pacifying Agent. You can to reduce your Terror Build-Up. That will help a ton.
- More importantly, you can trivialize this fight by getting the "Anti-Air Deathblow" from Blackhat Badger (the shop by the "Old Grave" Idol). The Shichimen Warrior likes to jump ALOT. In fact, so much that you can literally run around him, wait for him to jump, jump after him and strike! Half of his health gone! You can even do that TWO TIMES IN A ROW to kill him entirely. I tried, but only got it once (several times) and wanted to make a video before I ran out of Confetti. Perhaps you can use that tip with better luck!
- Lastly, I'll say that the umbrella has an upgrade to block apparition attacks ( Phoenix's Lilac Umbrella). You can upgrade to that and use it here to help, if needed (I actually had that upgrade, but didn't use it).
So hopefully that last paragraph helps you out and makes this a much easier fight than you can see below. Either way, you have enough Divine Confetti to take this enemy down and reclaim the Idol. Once you beat the Shichimen Warrior, you will gain the Malcontent's Ring, which is an upgrade for the Fing
