Master the Sea of Corpses (Gramr Trial) in Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. Learn to use Gramr's charged attack and dispel enemy shadows.

After you've finished all of the Odin Trials, return to the Barnstokkr Tree to pull Gramr from the tree.

When you take the sword, you'll be thrust into a giant combat challenge. This section has no Lorestones, no Runes, no puzzles. This is just enemy after enemy, fight after fight.

Gramr is a powerful weapon that gives you some new abilities, but you'll face some new enemy types with new abilities in response to your newfound power.

You can hold down [button] to charge the sword. This will cause Senua to take a new stance. Every press of the L stick will how cause Senua to evade. Releasing [button] will result in a quick and powerful attack that can disrupt enemies shadows.

Additionally, you can now block and parry attacks that you otherwise could not, and if your timing is perfect you can cause a powerful flash that will stun and damage all enemies nearby, as well as dispelling shadows.

Your focus (a mechanic that slows time) also lasts much longer with your new sword.

To combat this, regular Swordsmen will often appear cloaked in shadow now. You'll need to dispel the shadow before you can damage them. Additionally, normal swordsman now have the ability to ignore the slowing effect of your focus ability, making it much more difficult to fight groups of enemies when there are Swordsmen mixed in.

You'll also begin meeting the speedy double axed shamans. These enemies are quite similar to Valravn, and in many ways are the most difficult normal enemies in the game.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
You'll initially fight 3 Shadow Swordsmen who will appear one at a time. Each of these enemies will begin the fight cloaked in shadow. You'll need to dispel the shadows before you can damage them.
  2. 2
After the fight, run down the all ahead between the walls of arms. The arms will reach for you, but they aren't dangerous. You don't need to worry about them grabbing you. Soon you'll reach a ledge that you'll have to jump down to proceed.
  3. 3
Continuing forward, you'll soon encounter more enemies. This fight is a lot bigger than what you're used to.
    • There are 3 swordsmen who appear all at once. They are not cloaked in shadow. Be careful, they're largely immune to the slowing effects of focus, which has been your primary method of fighting groups of enemies up to this point.
  4. 4
After you defeat the three, a Maceman and a Defender enemy will spawn a ways back.
  5. 5
After killing both, an Axe Brute will spawn. You've only faced one of these enemies before, but there are actually many more options for fighting them with your new sword.
  6. 6
After you defeat him, 2 swordsmen cloaked in shadow appear.
  7. 7
When you kill one, another will spawn.
  8. 8
When you kill the second, a fourth will spawn.
  9. 9
When you kill the third, a last lone Shield defender will spawn.
  10. 10
After you defeat all the enemies, a new path will open up between a stone arch. The stone walls run at diagonal angles, forming a triangular hallway. As you move down the path, the blood will get deeper and you'll find yourself wading through hip deep blood. Keep following the linear path forward. You know as long as you're wading through deep liquid that you won't be attacked by enemies. When the blood gets shallow and only comes up to your ankles, you'll know another fight is coming.
  11. 11
This fight will start by introducing the dual axe wielding Shaman enemy. This enemy has a myriad of defensive options. He can block, parry, and evade. He usually attacks 2 or more times in a row, and can kick you off balance. He can also throw projectiles at you, and can leap across the screen and close the distance very quickly with a leaping attack. When his life is low, he'll throw down a smoke bomb, cloaking himself in shadow. You'll have to dispel the shadows before you can finish him off.
    • You start off facing a single Shaman, giving you a chance to get to know him.
  12. 12
After you defeat the Shaman, 3 swordsmen cloaked in shadow will appear.
  13. 13
When you defeat one, a fourth will appear.
  14. 14
When you defeat a second, a fifth takes his place.
  15. 15
When you kill the third, another Shaman will spawn.
  16. 16
When you defeat the last 2 swordsmen and the Shaman, an Axe Brute, a Bludgeon, and a Defender will spawn together. Focus is useful here.
  17. 17
After you kill all three, two more Swordsmen and a Bludgeon appear.
  18. 18
When you kill one, another Swordsman will spawn.
  19. 19
After killing all three, a Shaman and a Defender spawn.
  20. 20
After killing both, another Shaman attacks.
  21. 21
After the Shaman, you'll face another Brute.
  22. 22
After you defeat the Brute, two Shadow Swordsmen will appear.
  23. 23
When the fight is finally over, a path leading up out of the blood will open up. It's a fairly long path through disturbing imagery. At one point you'll walk across the arms of two giant corpses. But the path is straightforward and linear. There's really no way to get lost. Simply follow the path and you'll complete the level.

  • Perfectly timed blocks and parries with Gramr can stun all nearby enemies and dispel shadows.
  • Focus lasts longer with Gramr, but be aware that some enemies can ignore its slowing effect.
  • The Shaman enemy is dangerous; watch for its projectiles, leaping attacks, and smoke bombs.
  • When wading through deep blood, you are safe from enemy attacks.
