A house and its objects are essential in The Sims, much like light and dark. After the challenge of building, you can focus on furnishing your Sim's home, provided you have the funds.

Important Note: You can sell an object and get a full refund if you do so within the same in-game day. This means you have the remaining hours of the current day to return an item. This is particularly useful for buying a PC to find a job; purchase it, search for a job, accept, and then sell the PC back with no loss, gaining job options.

6.0. Specific Objects Behavior

Some objects function differently. Here's a breakdown of specific behaviors before covering common ones.

  • Bed: Sims will sleep until 6 AM unless you issue a "Wake up" order or another command. A "Wake up" order makes them rise immediately, potentially startling them, which can be useful if a burglar appears. If you give another order, they'll wait until their Energy bar is full. A double bed requires free space on both its left and right for two Sims to sleep simultaneously.
  • TV: Sims will watch TV until their Fun bar is full. If you queue another order, they will wait until Fun is full unless the order is canceled. Sims do not turn off the TV automatically; it's best to queue a "Watch" and "Turn Off" order together.
  • Computer: Sims playing on the computer will stay until their Fun bar is full and will turn off the computer themselves. However, if you queue another order while they are playing, they will stop and forget about the computer, requiring you to reorder them to play or turn it off.
  • Plants: Sims will not water plants automatically. You can order them to water a specific plant, but they may water the entire garden. This can be canceled by giving another order, causing them to water only the designated plant and then move on.
  • Stat-raising objects: Sims will typically continue using stat-raising objects until they gain a new point. If you queue another order, you'll need to wait or cancel the task. These tasks usually stop when a Sim's Energy is low, though they might continue even with sufficient energy if they've just gained a point.
  • Cuckoo Clock (Download / Livin'Large): This object chimes every 6 hours, starting at 0 AM. Avoid placing it in the bedroom, as it might wake your Sim at an inconvenient time.
