Learn how to make Sims fall in love, manage jealousy, and successfully propose marriage in The Sims. Essential tips for building families and relationships.

Love in The Sims develops between Sims of opposite genders who have spent sufficient time together. To initiate love, perform 'love-inducing' interactions. A heart icon above a Sim's head signifies they are in love. However, a Sim in love can become 'jealous' if you engage in 'jealousy-inducing' acts with another Sim, but only if all three (or more) are in the same room. If Sims are separated, you can flirt with others without consequence.

Jealousy can severely damage the relationship meter, requiring significant effort to repair.

A Sim loving another does not guarantee reciprocal feelings. For a couple to marry, they must love each other. Marriage in The Sims primarily serves as a means to integrate a Sim into your family unit.

If you start with a male and female Sim who are already in love and living together, you will not have the opportunity to marry them as they already reside in the same household.

Marriage

Proposing marriage is not always straightforward. Firstly, the target Sim must be in love with your Sim. Then, invite them to your house. Ensure your house has enough objects to fulfill the invited Sim's needs and improve their mood, as Sims will reject proposals if their mood is too low.

Crucially, Sims need FOOD. Let the invited Sim eat and attend to their needs. If they use the bathroom, ensure you are not using it. If they watch TV, estimate the time needed to fill their 'Fun' bar. After this estimation, consider letting them eat again to be certain, especially if your cooking skills are limited and a single plate may not be fully satisfying. Afterward, attempt the proposal in a room with the highest rating in your house. If the proposal fails, you can try again later. A successful proposal can occur even in a small, poorly defined room, so elaborate decorations are not essential.

Generally, allow the invited Sim to wander and fulfill their needs for several hours before attempting the proposal.
