Detailed walkthrough for Level 02: City of Vilcabama in Tomb Raider IV•V•VI Remastered. Find secrets, pickups, and defeat enemies.
This is another really easy level. The only challenges come at the very beginning of the level, so you can really keep trying these battles until they go correctly for you. I suppose that it is possible to complete this level with 100% of your life intact -- and you are welcome to aim for that if you like -- but for our purposes, 90% is just as good (it's not like you get an extra merit badge or anything for a perfect level).
This level contains 3 Secrets, 13 pickups, 29 kills and 14 breakaway tiles.
Trophies earned: 3
New Game+ Notes
- The level has 2 Save Crystals, and I needed both of them pretty much as soon as I had access to them.
- The extra durability of wolves in this level is going to really stand out. Expect to lose half of Lara's life just in that first battle against 4 wolves.
- Even so, you should again strive to finish the level using only pistols. Save that premium ammo.
- The level is a lot easier if you avoid triggering the bear by the central pool. You miss a pickup, but it seems to be worth the trade.
Trophy Alert -- Dances With Wolves
You can earn a Trophy for luring all 11 wolves in this level into the room with the Temple. You are going to take a lot of damage doing this, and Medi packs WILL be needed, but in theory, you can earn the Trophy and then just reload your game and continue with your "No Medi Packs" run. This is actually a bit less difficult once you are familiar with the layout of this level, so if you are confident in your ability to navigate the area, go ahead and try this now. Instructions can be found here. For everyone else, we will knock this out with a couple of other Trophies after completing this first run through the game.
Trophy Alert -- The Apex Predator
It is pretty easy to get this Trophy at the beginning of this level. All you have to do is defeat a wolf while you're both airborne. There are 4 wolves in this first room. Run in, then start shooting while doing back flips and side jumps. It shouldn't take more than a couple of tries. Once the Trophy appears, just reload your game and start the level anew, for real this time.
- 1Four wolves await you in this first room, one coming from each corner. They are triggered when you advance beyond the opened doors. Run into the room and aim first for the wolf (1) to your far left. When he dies, aim for the one to your far right (2). As soon as the second wolf goes down, roll and backhop into the area he came from, and take out the other two (3, 4). If you're willing to replay this sequence enough times, you can emerge from this battle with no damage.
- 2Now roll again and head deeper into this area and kill one more wolf (5) ahead of you.
- 3From the room with the fifth wolf, take a left to the room with a small pool. You will see a building to your left with two entries. There is a bear inside, and he can come out of either entry. He is triggered when you step on either square in front of an entry or a square left or right of the entry.
- 4Take a wide path around the structure (like near the pool) and stand facing the entrances. Make a run across the square to the right of the right entry and then jump up on the nearby wall. To pursue you, the bear (6) will have to come the long way up the stairs, giving you plenty of time to finish him off safely. If you take significant damage, just reload and try again, since we haven't really done much yet.
- 5Once you are satisfied with your performance on this level so far, make a quick run around the area killing bats (there are 10 of them (7 - 16)) and one more wolf (17). In the room with the wolf, you should find a small Medi Pack (1).
- 6If you haven't already done so, retrieve the small Medi Pack (2) from the roof of the bear's abode.
- 7Dive into the pool. When the path comes to a T-intersection, go right.
- 8When you come to a room, turn sharp left and go behind the column in the NE corner of the room to pull a switch.
- 9Go back out the way you came in. Go all the way to the end and swim left into the small opening.
- 10You'll come out in a room with 4 stone snake heads. Jump over to the decking with the snake heads, and the Why Did It Have to Be Snakes Trophy should pop for you.
- 11Head into the room in the SE corner for Secret #1. Pick up the Magnum clips (3) and small Medi Pack (4).
- 12Return to the room with the underwater switch. This time go to the NE corner and pull a switch that will open a door above you.
- 13Enter the room above you for Secret #2 -- a small Medi Pack (5).
- 14Pull the nearby switch to return to open the door and return to the room with the pool.
- 15Ahead and to your left, you'll see a switch on the wall. Go throw that switch and follow the path up the stairs. Make a running jump across the gap.
- 16PS1: Follow these steps: Run across the breakaway tiles and try to jump into the alcove with the large Medi Pack. If you make it, grab the loot (6) and safety drop to the ground. If not, then pull the moveable block into the room and use it to access the Large Medi Pack (6). Now push the moveable block as far north as it will go. Kill the bat (18), then grab the Gold Idol (7) and the Silver Key (8) from the corners of the room straight ahead. You can then jump to here to continue.
- 17Remastered: Proceed as outlined in the box below.
Deadline 5
Dive in the pool and keep Lara underwater until both her breath meter and her health meter are empty and she drowns.
